    Today I have....

Today I have finally gotten around to doing some jobs....

I've re soldered my fuel pump relay (it was full of dry joints)

I've replaced the alarm sensor that sits on top of the dash, the existing one was broken and wouldn't sit flat. After many abortive previous attempts today I tried all the various means of swaping it (there's no spare wire to pull it out), in the end however I had to virtualy remove the whole dashboard to get behind and unplug it.

I've removed, cleaned and lubricated the heater motor, it's been sticky for a while and occasionaly squeeks a bit.

I've replaced the foam in my drivers seat. This was no mean feat and one that I've been putting off for over a year (had the spare foam that long). Must admit that although I was petrified of doing it it wasn't that hard in the end, the seat now feels a lot harder and I can't feel the metal of the frame when I sit down.

Tomorrow I will finish putting the car back together, wash and polish it (Inside and out), fit a bonnet catch(don't currently have one on) and whatever else I've been putting off.

Cheers Pete, I think that if it doesn't go soon I'll just end up keeping it for a while longer and try again once things pick up.

at £2000 i was having alot of interest, i only dropped the price to get rid sharpish as i found a nice bmw, drop your price a little i can understand why you would want what you do but if it's a struggle to put in £60 a week then look at the outcome if you had a diesel,

drop your price to say £2250
    buy a diesel
your £240 a month fuel now comes in at say £120 ( i have a diesel car and that is good for 1000 miles foot always hard down)
saving £120 a month only takes 2 month to recoup what you lost, but it the mean time you will feel happyer in yourself knowing that the that when you put £60 in at the garage it will last more than a week.

(i hope this does not sound patronising because it's not mean't to be, i have been in the same situation and the same was told to me, i did it and i have never been happier 3 years on and i still have the diesel for everyday use, and i can afford to have a toy on the side).

Well TC, for what its worth I considered your car but wanted a red or white one. I'm sure there will be someone like me looking for a black one - its just a matter of hanging on in there. I'm in a similar situation and can't shift my Golf V5 at the mo - except that is just sitting there doing sod all now

Big thumbs up on the work you've done - wish I could get the time to crack on like that!

BTW How hard was the seat to re-foam? I've noticed the drivers seat in particular is very soft compared to my old Golf which was spot on. Did you just take the foam from another seat or did you buy some from an upholstery specialist and reshape it?

I was given the foam by an ex forum member, it came from the passenger side seat of another 850(they wear less), to be honest it didn't take that long at all, including taking the seat out it probably took me about 2 hours, this includes fitting two new spade terminals onto the heated seat wires that had snapped off.

Right after re soldering some of the connections in the fuel relay last time I thought I'd cured my cars occasional 'hiccup', however it's re occured again....I'm defo suspecting the fuel pump now. Just out of interest is it possible for the fuel pump intake to get clogged up with crap from the bottom of the tank?, is it worth whipping the pump out and checking it?..
