Doesn't do anything for me. Original grill sprayed black is the one i would go for.

Well, It needs a slash and a badge - see mine.

Is it Chav? What is Chav? I have always found the Ian Dury and The Blockheads signature song 'Blockheads' a comforting explanation:

You must have seen parties of Blockheads
    With blotched and lagered skin
Blockheads with food particles in their teeth
What a horrible state they're in

They've got womanly breasts under pale mauve vests
    Shoes like dead pigs' noses
    Cornflake packet jacket, catalogue trousers
    A mouth what never closes

You must have seen Blockheads in raucous teams
    Dressed up after work
Who screw their poor old Eileens
    Get sloshed and go berserk

    Rotary accessory watches
    Hire-purchase signet rings
A beauty to the bully boys
    No lonely vestige clings

Why bother at all about Blockheads?
Why shouldn't they do as they please?
You know if it came to a brainy game
You could baffle a Blockhead with ease

How would you like one puffing and blowing in your ear-hole?
Or pissing in your swimming pool?

    Bigger brained Blockheads often acquire
    Black and orange cars
    Premature ejaculation drivers
    Their soft-top's got roll-bars

'Fill her up,' they say to Blockheads
'Go on, stick it where it hurts'
    Their shapeless haircuts don't enhance
    Their ghastly patterned shirts

Why bother at all about Blockheads?
    Superior as you are
You're thoughtful and kind with a well-stocked mind
A Blockhead can't think very far

Imagine finding one in your laundry basket
Banging nails in your big black dog

Why bother at all about Blockheads?
Why should you care what they do?
Cos after all is said and done
    You're a Blockhead too

I'd go for the mesh but find something to fill the whole, so to speak. Maybe put the slash back on. Or get some other Volvo badge and pop it in the corner.
I personally think the fogs behind the grille cheapen the look. Maybe it would work if you darkened the glass/lense? JMHO.

I'm not so keen on the mesh, but if you like it, go for it. I can always chuck potatoes as you pass and turn them into french fries!

I think adding the slash & badge over the mesh would produce a factory fitted look and be quite interesting. It might draw the eye away from the horns too? Other than that, I'd agree that painting the original plastic grille would be good (and provide more protection ?)

Just my tuppence worth, and its all down to personal taste - whatever you prefer is what you should do

Regarding chavs, its an awkward thing to define isn't it?! We all hate those Corsas full of hyper active monkeys with the bass blasting out, but equally most of us have probably considered rear privacy glass of varying darkness, lowered ride height, different exhausts, nice alloys... so what is 'chaviness' to one person may not be to the next - they might call it 'customising' if they're of my generation!

Not really my cup of tea but as mentioned adding the slash may well improve it and give it a more factory look
