    New Intercooler

Hi, Just thought i'd post a few pics of my new intercooler, if anyone is interested its from a bloke of ebay in sweden, selling for £200ish + delivery.

The quality is good and it seems to pull alot stronger through the whole rev range, fitting was a bit of a pain but nothing a hammer didn't fix.

I've lost his link but its in Volvo 850 section, not t5.

    Cheers, Rob

Hi mate, are auto's any different, i know the bloke says you can use it with a/c but the trouble i had getting it in, i very much doubt it without taking the whole radiator pack out.

I'll post some pics tommorrow with bumper on, it looks standard but you can see it through the mesh grill, looks pretty good.

The 18T should be here today, yipee, 13 sec 1/4 coming soon (hopefully).

    Cheers, Rob

Hi Pete, The intercooler is i little bit thicker but not that much, only about 3mm, outside dimensions are the same but the mounting brackets that have been welded on are too wide to fit between the frame rails, i had to cut slots in then and unbolt the radiator to get it in, and its still a very tight squeeze.

The 18T is coming from universal salvage for £180.00, i found it on Part Search. I did read somewhere that is you used the 18T a remap wasn't needed, or am i wrong.

One last thing I think you'll know, How easy is it to change the Turbo, and will i need gaskets.

How your engine build coming along.

    Cheers, Rob

Hi rob changing the turbo isnt too bad its just tight for room just take your time with it yes you will need new gaskets.
As for not remapping it can be done as pedro and flying fridge mover have done but ffm has realised the only way to get the best out of it and fully controll everything is a remap would be required but its totally up to you what injectors are you going to run or are you keeping the orange ones in also are you going to be using a later manifold as they flow better a me7 will do the job and shouldnt be too expensive if you all ready havnt got one.
As for the t5 build im just waiting on my final plans being drawn up as where i was first going to build the garage it wasnt suitable unless i wanted to pay for pile driving for the road at the side of me and then pay for the road closing so the garage had to be moved.

I've already got an MTE map and was hopeing that would be ok for now, i'm not planning huge boost (yet), do you think i should upgrade the injectors as well. I was going to stick with the origional manifold for now, as with most things, it all comes down to money, unless there is a big inprovement to have from the later one.

    What gaskets will i need.

I like you dedication, building a garage to build your car in, i like it.

Lol im even going to buy a car lift aswell if you sticking with you stock manifold have you thought about porting the out let i doubt you will see a great difference in swaping form the older t5 manifold to the me7 one if you going to do it with out another remap ide stick with your orange ones as the map yu have got is for them once its all done i would put it on a rolling road just to cheack thing like the afr's and you can also set the boost up on it aswell just remember if you have stock rods to use all of you gears and not boot it from low revs in hight gears if your boost curve is quite aggressive.

Cheers, I'm running 18 PSI at the moment, might drop it to 15 PSI and see how it goes, going to have to save a bit more and get new injectors and remap done in one go.

Thanks for the advice and good luck with the build, i'll look forward to you beating me next year on the strip.

As promised i took some pics with it all back together, it all goes back as normal, even with the undertray.

I have just noticed, it would of been better if it was mounted straight.

The air filter is a cheap mushroom one of ebay, its the only one i can get in that position. I'm on the lookout for a HKS mushroom filter as the cheap one dosn't stop the fine dust.
