Here's to another 12 months of motoring....

Well, Project shoestring went straight through the MOT yesterday.
Gave her half a chance by repairing the advisorys I got last year and it flew through.
Only trouble we had was the back box had water in, And it kept blowing liquid up the sensor for the emisions test. It's all good though.
Had a couple more advisorys but they're only things I was going to change anyway.
So new rear discs on the way, And should be fitting my 302's this weekend.

    Current Chariots...

MOT only as good for the car on the day of the test.

Doesn't mean things are safer a week later etc...

I think they should introduce MOT's for older cars twice a year at £25 a time.

Not a bad idea really when you think about it

Kids are carried in these cars and safety is upmost, a check every 6 months would ensure the car was in top nick, and give less time for major things to go wrong.

And this would change if they were MOTed twice a year

We all know that there are towrags around who don't maintain their cars, vans or bikes. Not only that, they don't insure them, run them without MOT or Tax so how would testing them twice a year effect these people when they don't bother anyway.

It's a bit like slapping income tax on a corpse.

Most people, the honest ones maintain their vehicles and look out for problems. The irresponsible ones will not take a blind bit of notice and carry on causing grief to us the people who pay up every time a new tax is slapped on us.

Oh yes the 850 is going in this afternoon for her MOT, and I'm expecting a bill for discs pads, and maybe track rod ends.

I've been going to this test centre for so long I'm on first name terms with the testers, and they are a great bunch of guys. Even when they fail the car. Right it's time to get on my knees again.

do you really think new cars are so much better? I know many case of brand-new cars leaving the factory with faults, & these cars aren't checked for 3years.

bloke at work took his car back as the gear change was sloppy, to be told they hadn't fitted a gear mount onto it. Another the car seized up when they tried to drive it off the forecourt because there was no oil in.

& who knows how long these cars can be sat in a field stored until someone actually wants that colour/model/spec, then simply registered & driven for 3 years before its first MOT

You only have to drive over the Avon Bridge on the M5 and look over to the right to see cars in their 1000s parked waiting for export, and they seem to sit there for weeks.

Before that they have been sitting in car parks at Honda Swindon and various other companies who use the Royal Portbury Docks to export.

Then of course they sit on the forecourts in this country for ages before someone buys them.

Right I'm off to get the MOT done. Fingers crossed.

She passed with nothing needing doing. Just an advisory on a small chip on the windscreen and some pitting on the rear discs.

So I'll get those sorted shortly.
