The t4 wouldn't be a lot different. A friend of mine does 50 miles a day in a stock V70, manages 33-34mpg @ 60-65mph. As you are covering 12k a year in commuting mileage and maybe another 5k in social a T5/T4 isn’t the best option.

    17k miles a year based on 29mpg = £225 / month average
    17k miles a year based on 33.5mpg = £194.95 / month average [£30.05 saving]

However, you could buy a £3495 Citroen C1 commuting car and save the Volvo for the weekend.

    http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk...leRegLetter=55

So you do 5k social miles in the volvo @ 29 mpg = £66.24 / month. Insure the c1 for £130 and cover 12k miles a year @ 61.4mpg = £75.08 a month plus insurance @ £11 = £152.40 an additional car on the drive and £72 in your pocket!

    Plan?

I'd be really happy with that mileage. Recently went up to manchester on the motorways, and averaged 26MPG, and round town I get 19.

    Thumbs up Mpg

My S70 T5 auto used to return around 22mpg, with the Rica 304 averages 24-25mpg including having lots of fun!

The T4 will be a bit better, but not by a massive amount. You may pick up another 10 mpg if you're gentle, but bury the throttle and even in the T4 it will be like turning on a tap.

what exactly did you expect mate? its a big volvo estate, it weighs close on a ton and a half, it produces around 225 bhp and it does 150mph, surely the thought must have crossed your mind before buying it that this car aint gonna be breaking any mpg records

I'm off to get my LPG fitted next week though so will see what difference that makes to my wallet long term

Well put Smudge. These cars aren't really for those requiring economy.

Thats good mate and to be honest you are never really going to see the bright side of 30 mpg. As said earlier I'm now driving a 2.4 non turbo V70 and at he mo its averaging 26.5mpg, all town driving. If you want better and love your T5 why not do an LPG conversion. Whatever you do don't do as above and buya Citroen, I ain't biased but I have experiance and french cars as a rule are rubbish and what you save on fuel you'll over up in repairs. Stick to the Volvo mate if you can and go LPG, a guy loal to me has a V8 Cherokee and runs LPG. He told me he puts £20 a week in totaland he covers about 300 mile a week.

As the T5 came to a lonesome end

Its just the V70 2.5 10 valve SE, pictured here with the 2 people that make life worth living, my babies.

The missus covers around 70 miles a day in hers, half of that in rush hour traffic. She gets a consistent 28.7 mpg at a depressing average of 30mph ! Was MOT'ing a Toyota Avensis today and couldn't believe that the on board computer read out said average 47.7 mpg, and that's for an 1800 petrol !..brought things into sharp focus a bit for me that did !

My problem now is that the missus doesn't want anything that's going to be slower then her T5 ..........for the money that might be a tricky one LOL !
