    Can my bonnet be saved?

Recently bought a V70 in Cassis which generally has a good body apart from two areas. One is the bonnet, the other the roof.

Ill do another thread for the roof so ill talk about the bonnet only in this one. Basically it looks like someones tried scrubing something off the middle of the bonnet with a wire brush/wool/scouring pad (delete as appropriate) and is a bloody mess.

Ive not done anything other than to try metallic t-cut it which did nothing. You can feel all the little scratches to the touch though after polishing with Autoglym super resin all is smooth. Im unsure whether the scratching is only in the laquer or in the paint underneath so im wondering what to do?

Depends hows deep the scratches are, can you feel them with your finger nail?. Looking at that photo you may be looking at a repaint, you could try flatting a small patch back with some 1200's wet and dry used very wet, then polish back up with a cutting compound (Like G3). I must however warn you that if there's not much paint on the car or the scratches are very deep then you could well sand through the laquer.

Personally I'd take his arm off if I was in need of a bonnet, and I was offered that lot.

But as I've got a white 850 it's not going to look to good or fit to well

Personally I'd look at replacing the bonnet - try Salvos or a similar Volvo specialist.

The last time I saw a scratch pattern like that one, it was on my Aunt's old skoda, which had suffered the wrath of some shed roofing felt in a bad storm!

Might polish out, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

    How's the polishing going?

That's a drive and a half. When I had a house in Montrose, I did the journey from Surrey to there, collected a van full of furniture and then did the return journey the same day. I spent 17 hours on the road.
