as for the Saab & Vectra link, i'm afraid they do share more than the floorpan. The Saab 3litre V6 diesel engine is GM & think some of the smaller engined petrol ones are as well. The standard has really slipped since they took over (bit like Volvo when F*rd took over)

Right the, back to the thread (bl***y SAAB's indeed ).

Hacked the little sod open this evening and what do I find. Yep, a springy, sliding carbon track thingy. A lot of money for not a lot of plastic and metal or technology . (Piccies off camera phone so apols for poor quality but they enough).

Problem is, despite looking so simple.............how the hell did it fail??????

Can't see any damage to the tracks or the slider bit.

And yes, I know the PCB is in two bits, I got a bit too enthusiastic with the hacksaw.

    Red face

Have you the Volvo part number? We might sell that at Euro. . .

Sorry if that's a bit 'stable door' but you could have said summat.

A bit of electronic contact oil/cleaner could probably have sorted it!

That or just pumping the pedal like mad for a couple of muinets!

    Tsk!

Apparently no-one else does does make it, that's the problem. Original Volvo only, manufactured only by ATE.

Problem is it is totally sealed (looks like the manin housing is moulded in two parts, the gubbins put inside and then the whole thing is ultrasonically welded together. Maybe two small holes could be drilled in it, one above the track so cleaner could be squirted in, and another underneath for draining it. Want to volunteer yours for a trial run???

I think getting a scrappage part would always be the best, first option, however, I'd expect that to fail in time too.. Such is life!

I think better to get a couple of second hand ones for a tenner each than get one new one for £80+, that way if the s/h one fails you can always stick another in it, do that eight times and it's still less than a new one.
