S70 Cutting out at idle when hot!

Can anyone help or advise me. I have a 1997 S70 2.5 10 valve petrol automatic.
Occasionally when in heavy stop start traffic on hot days the car begins to miss, idle poorly and then cut out completley. it will start again but progresses no more than 20 yards or so. Needless to say when this happens at busy city junctions one is not very popular! In addition as all power functions are cut, ie brakes steering etc the vehicle is impossible to push or steer by one person.
After about 90 minutes cooling off everything is back to normal, until the next time. Driving with this sort of problem looming has become unbearable
and if I cant resolve the fault I must sell the car. Has anyone experienced this
problem? and can anyone suggest a solution.
    Charles Donnelly.

Crank or cam sensor breaking down when hot I would think... Or fuel pump relay.

Buy a can of freeze spray from maplin and shoot it at the crank/cam sensor when it next cuts out. If it re-starts fine, then you have found the problem...

    - wont cause misfiring, nor a refusal to restart.
