    What temp????

I'm just wondering, how high should the tempeture gauge go in my V70. It is a 1997 2.5 (2.4) 10 valve. It was 24 degrees outside today and the car was sitting in a cue of traffic for a long time (police had one of the main roads closed because a little girl got knocked down (hope shes ok)). Anyway it went up towards the red but I've been told thats fine. It didn't go into the red and the fan came on and cooled it down again. This already happened last week on a long drive as I posted a thread. This time was different though, lots of coolent, as I say temp came down again with fan and no fluids lost. I'm thinking now possibly thermostat, I then read tonight someone else is having that problem. I had it pressure tested and so on after the last time but the one thing we all failed to check was the thermostat.

Would there be anything else could do this? And how high hould the gauge go at its warmest?

Hi matey sounds like the thermoswitch that controls the elec fan could be a suspect. Could be that it's not cutting in at the correct temp. Jiust a thought, but the first thing I did on both my 850s was to replace the thermo as they were running cold. I chose the 92* one. You can get 88* if you want. The guage in mine sits a micron above halfway and have never seen it go above as the fan cuts in and keeps it there. Oh.....and changing the thermo is a simple and quick wee job and not expensive. Probably worth changing it to rule it out.HTH.

Cheers al, and at £7.50 I think I will, haven't had the chance to take it out yet. Funny thing is had it idoling for almost half an hour on the drive way under the scorthing sun and it didn't heat at all??? (go above half way)

Either the fan isnt working on low speed, or the thermostat is lazy and stuck half shut...

Hmmm been considering it. Gonna do the engine mods to the 854 and just make the estate look smooth. If you get the drift.

Do it by post my friend. Next day,it's in your car. Hamish is very efficient and true to his word. Even if you're not sure,he'll happily chat on the phone about anything you're unsure of. £100 surcharge in this case, but refunded when he receives your old unit. Can't go wrong.
