Porsche Brake Upgrade

Hi,

I have a C70 2.4 turbo and i have been looking at some porsche calipers and bigger discs for the car...i do understand that carriers and the size of the wheel play a big part to the conversion as well as the brake hose ends one of volvo other of porsche,but can anyone tell me which porsche calipers i should be looking for or dont it matter..i have volvo canisto 17s on my car which i might need spacer for clearance.

Hi,

I sourced 'big red' calipers off a 993 Twin Turbo although mine are in fact black.

I believe also there are other Porsche models which have this size caliper - possibly certain years of 928 but I can't remember the details I'm afraid.

yup..the 993 turbo calipers ae the ones people upgrade to...

part numbers 993.315.425.10 and 993.351.426.10

with these you will need the pads to fit that caliper, the 330mm S60/V70 R discs and the longer goodridge braided hoses. oh and the fitting brackets

Not being funny (and I'm a huge advocate of brake upgrades) but why do you want to upgrade the brakes on 2.4T? I'd have thought that decent discs and pads should be fine on a low-pressure turbo?

That said, if you need the right brackets, I have a spare pair

I don't really know anything about the Porsche brakes (except I want some), but a quick search on Google for those numbers makes me think they're wrong.

The second 3 digit number in each sequence should be 351 *I think*.

e.g. 993.351.425.10

Hey thanks to the very prompt replies really appreciate them..would boxter S 4 pot calipers do (part number 996 352 421 and 996 352 422)? alongside 325mm disc the guy whos selling them has alll the brackets,spacers,longer bolts and hoses for the conversion,but i thought i should get some advice on here...also i know i said i have a 2.4 turbo,but i upgraded it to a t16 after my original one siezed up..

just seen 2 set of calipers advertised in the states both in black colour..1st one is 911 993 calipers they are in good nick priced at 250 GBP and the second is 911 996 again in good condition and priced at 270 GBP minus the shipping.any ideas which ones to go for?

thanks for getting back to me..yeah it was these ones that i was looking at

but i aint sure what disc to run with them one guy of here told me i can run them with 302mm disc provided i have the rite carriers..now where do i get the right carriers from??am guessing you are running 330mm on yours,but if i was to put 330mm my 17inc canisto will never fit..shall i but these calipers first then work my way round to discs carriers n wheels?

Hi,

hmm - that might be a problem, I'm not sure that caliper can take a disc that's only 302mm diameter.

To use the caliper brackets as sold in the USA (IPD sell them, so does CJ Yother I think) you probably do need to run the 330mm diameter front disc off an S60R AWD. The bracket will position the caliper correctly for that disc. Using that bracket with a 302mm disc won't work, the pads won't grab the disc in parallel and would probably wear leaving a huge lip on the pad, which would in time block the vents of the disc I imagine. I don't think it can be done with 302mm discs I'm afraid.

It might be possible to make custom brackets which hold the caliper nearer the centre of the hub - *if* there's enough room to shave off material without making the bracket dangerously thin so it would snap. Then you still will need to find out what the minimum disc diameter that caliper will cope with anyway - 302mm may still be too small.

I think you're right that Canistos will foul the calipers - not sure how big the spacers would have to be but probably too big to be practical. I am running 17" Pegasus wheels and did what you suggest - buy the calipers whilst you can find them at a half decent price, and then keep an eye out for wheels then finally pick up discs and pads relatively easily.

Thats really has helped i knew the canisto might be the only problem i have seen 2 sets of calipers going more or less at the same price of about 250 pounds,1 is the one u sent me a link to..there is another set but its been described as 996/911

I would make sure you are getting the calipers to suit 32mm discs as most of the porshce calipers are 26mm width max calipers. Thats why you need the 993 351 425/426 models. I have been looking at the same ones myself so have found info from Dooby and other porsche setup owners invaluable. I would make sure the ones you buy are suited to your needs.

Hi,

sorry to say I don't think the calipers in that link are the right ones. They shouldn't have that solid bar across the top.

I think I got my Goodridge hoses either off eBay or PartsForVolvos:

Yeah i thought these were different as it has it listed as 911/996 calipers,but wasnt sure.. the ones Dooby found for me seem more suitable heres the link

That item is no longer available. I would email the sellers of calipers and ask them to read off the numbers on the top edge of the calipers. Remember the numbers listed above are the ones you want.

I found a pair of calipers with the model numbers you had quoted me they are in good nick they are in the states got hold of the guy selling it asking for about 250,but willing to accept offer..actually dooby dug them out for me...
