    28mpg in a T5?

Is it normal to get 28mpg out of a T5? Weve had this figure for two days now (my Dad's going 200miles a day back and fore work) weve worked it out manually.
I thought at first the Turbo might not be boosting properly because the focus ST guys say they struggle to get 20mpg out of them. Same engine, heavier car and we're getting 28mpg?
Now his driving is 1/3rd Motorway and 2/3rd Country roads.
I've had a listen out for the turbo and I can hear it spooling (distant whine) but no chatter? Now im not sure if these T5's chatter as i've never heard it?

Does 28mpg sound reasonable or does it sound like theres somthing up?

Depends on where your driving it, if it's mainly motorway then yes it's definately doable, mine averages, 28-32 on the motorway, around town however it's more like 19-21mpg.

Thats about rite for doing long runs and no the t5 does not have turbo chatter due to the recirc valve you can get any turbo to chatter if you blank or block the recirc valves and do not run a dump valve.
I have a dump valve fitted but i feel the spring is a little strong as i do get a little chatter since fitting a large open air filter at low boost.

I would say that is poor for motorway driving, but it also depends how you drive.

My Phase 2 T5 has a long term average of 26MPG - on my regular 200 mile commute (largely motorway) I don't struggle to get over 30MPG so 28MPG is perfectly reasonable for a mixed run if you're not booting it too much.

I got 25.6mpg on an around town drive the other day... 15 miles aint exactly a great distance to do to judge mpg, but it impressed me, as I used to get 21mpg if I drove like my Mum....

    40mpg at ~70mph no bother.....

Yeah, my 28.4mpg is my long term average - hasn't been reset for well over 5-6000 miles.

On a few hour motorway cruise sticking at 75-80 mph, I average between 32.7 and 33.4 mpg quite regularly.

    Before the HLM 304 i was averaging 17 - 18mgp around town and 28 - 30 on a run.

    Since the 304 however im averaging 20 - 21mpg around town and 34 - 35 on a run.

So yeah 28 is a pretty good average

Mine regularly returns the right side of 33mpg. As for the Ford......who knows? I knew someone with an ST and from the midlands of the south, only averaged 18mpg to my little backwater. But that said,Fords are s***e.

Whats one of these 'trip computers' you talk about? Your year old V50 does not have one! All the buttons, the screen and everything but it dosent work. Apparently it has to be 'activated' if anyone can shed some light on this?

Just had a quick peek under the bonnet to check fluid levels, gave the airfilter a quick clean and I was stood there looking at the bar going towards the actuator and I was soo tempted to turn up the boost Better not, it's not like the 306 D-Turbo's I've put the boost up on before lol. Ecu will probably spaz out.
Tell you what though, the airbox is bloody restrictive! No wonder the engines so quiet?
