    Lightbulb Bulb Failure...

    Hi all,

Had a bulb failure warning in the dash the the other day. However, it was telling me about bulb that I can't identify. After a few minutes, the warning went away and isn't there now! It said (this may not be exact as it didn't stay for long...) "BULB FAILURE POSITION INDICATOR".

As I got the message immediately after starting the engine, before I moved off, I got out the car with the engine still running, but couldn't find any bulbs that were not working!

Anyway, does anyone know what the "POSITION INDICATOR" bulb is ?

I had a similar fault with a number plate bulb, hitting it fixed it, I think that if a bulb is going faint a similar message comes up ie your indicators are fading!

Position Indicator bulb message on mine turned out to be one of the number plate light bulbs.

The Position Indicator bulb is, I beleive, within the lighting column on the rear pillars, I think it's just above the brake light. You'll note that the Volvo has two position markers on each column for satefy, of course!

If yours has flagged as blown, then started working again, that means the bulb is about to fail permanently. Not sure how that works but it's happened on mine a number of times over the last couple of years.

It's not too bad to replace but there are a few sharp edges to beware of.

Thanks chaps. I did look at the rear clusters when the message was on, but couldn't see anything out. Perhaps the message stays on for a minimum amount of time even if the bulb was only detected as failed for a few seconds.

    Cheers

I had a loose connection on one of my clusters, which kept throwing up this message. A friend of mine had exactly the same thing too. I used to "fix it" with a light tap to the cluster. Then my mechanic saw to it.

Had exactly the same problem - its the tail light bulb - the rear cluster (looking from the outside) is split into two parts - looking at the bottom half of the cluster its the top bulb - its difficult to get at as its in between the bottom access panel and the top speaker cover - looking at the cluster from inside you need to get your hand up from the bottom access panel and look for a long handled white bulb insert - they are different to the rest of the bulb holders - kept giving me the message on the dash in wet weather - cleaned up connector and its been fine ever since - message goes off striaght away so should not stay in memory

Mine does that everyday. but after a couple of seconds it goes away! So I just ignore it. Its been doing it for the past 8 or so months. I've checked all the lights and they seem fine.
