    Which S40?

Looking to buy a new shape S40 in the future.
Which engine do you think i should go for?
At the moment i have a S70 T5 and love the power, but i dont want the running costs of the S40 T5.
Am i going to be disapointed with all the S40 engines apart from the T5?
    Thanks.

If you are worried about running costs (fuel) of the T5, then only other option is the D5 which you could get remapped, although fairly gutsy standard- its just the lack of uesable power band (redline IIRC about 1500-4k Vs 2500-6k on T5)- due to being a diesel - however nothing will go quite as good as the T5

anything else will seem horribly gutless in comparrison

The T5s are pretty good these days on fuel aren't they? My old Phase 2 used to get me 37mpg motorway / 30mpg around town. The newer cars must be even better. What does Volvo quote?

Personally I can't see the point of the new S40s
They look the same as S60s only with less room. The rear legroom in the S60 is barely big enough so god knows what it is like in the S40.

Road tax for the S40 T5 will cost £245 next year compared to £205 for my 1997 S70 T5.
Also fed up with paying £700 a year for insurance.

Get a S40 T4 then, cheap tax if pre 2001 car and probably quicker and better on fuel than the newer, fatter S40.

as said i think from what youve said the D5 would be the best option, good mpg,not too bad on power and bags of torque

    S70 T5: 0-60 in 6.8s; 240bhp
    S40 D5: 0-60 in 8.2s; 177bhp

1.4s is a lot to 60mph. I fear you'll spend lots of money and be disappointed with the performance unless you chip it. I also reckon the S60 is a far better buy than the new shape S40. If you go for the S60, check the engine mountings - a common failure.

Hi. I did read up about the injectors but may have changed my mind again! LOL.
    I have looked at -

    S40 new shape.
Seat Leon diesel with BTCC bodykit as standard.
    Ford Mondeo ST

But have decided to go for a 2005 V70 D5!!!
That way i can get rid of the trailer and put the Kart in the back.

So looks like i will be staying in the Volvo family after all.
Maybe something to do with working for volvo main dealer for 15 years after leaving school, meeting my wife at a Volvo dealer (she was management.....so no more! LOL)
Niece and brother-in-law both used to work for volvo main dealer.
    Owned 3 volvo's.
    VOLVO'S IN THE BLOOD...................
