    Water injection

    Right here goes,
    I had a Aqua-Mist water injection systems on my 850 t-5 & S70-R.
On both these cars it worked very very well,
giving them both extra bhp & torque.
It was like driving the car on a super cold winters morning all of the time everytime.

So i'm thinking about fitting the same kit / set up to my S80 D5.
I have already re-mapped the car with the Rica sports map,
replaced the filter with a ITG pannel one.
I only use Shell V-power diesel & millers plus 4 diesel sports additives.

I know a lot of people in USA rant & rave about water injection systems being fitted onto there turbo diesel cars / trucks.
Giving more performace & more mpg.

But no-one in GB does anything for the turbo-diesels.

Is there anyone on here running / using water injection on there cars????
If so what system / set up???

Im not running it at the moment, but I am looking at the aquamist system for my T5... sorry to hijack your thread but did you run it off the windscreen washer bottle or use a seperate tank ? Im concerned that running it off the windscreen washer bottle will introduce soap into the engine intake, but Im not sure how to run it off a seperate tank ( ie where to put it)

the methanol in the screen-wash will actually give better results than if running just water

But do you mean you should just run a neat methanol/water mix, or are you saying any other ingredients in your average screenwash can be safely ignored?

Yip, the last 2 were hooked up to the bottom of the washer bottle.
I was running a 20% methanol mix in the water.

I do know of others that run a water tank in the boot & some even take it that bit futher & fit some sort of charge cooler system on top of that.

Speak to Pyaap over on T5D5 as I think he is running n aquamist system on his D5 with good results.

With the new new Aquamist systems you get a good bit of kit and I think a seperate reservoir for your water /meth mix.http://www.aquamist.co.uk/phpBB2/ind...495d2c320789b1 Here is a link to the forums to throw your questions at.

Modern screen wash contains no methanol.

Pyaaps D5 does run smoother with the water injection on, it then pulls cleanly to over 5500rpm.

Im really not happy with the idea of injecting soap into my air intake, i know what happens to that when it gets burnt, its turns into sticky nasty ****. Think I will have to look at a seperate tank system, its just a case of where to mount it, there is not a lot of room in the S60 engine bay.

Plumb it in the boot and with the new system you can have a warning light/alert to show low level.

Depends on the specific screenwash I suspect.

Ho wmuch water does an aquamist set up use - how often would you need to top it if you had say a std. sized washer bottle for the aquamist alone??

I'd say if you were using a cone type filter, the available gap between the wing & the cone would be a prime spot for some kind of tank. I'd personally check & top up every other day than fit a sensor. But I know little on this area... but that may change!

The aqua-mist 1s system is coming in about £350 delivered or there about's.
I will be looking to mount it using the huge screen wash washer bottle on the S80,
& i will also be dropping a few ice cubes in the water every now & again for that extra bit of go go. lol

I'm one of they people who likes to check there oil level & water levels every few days,
so i'll try to keep a track on how much water it use's.

If your a hero on track and don't back off for corners then you could get through 10% of the amount of fuel used. 5-8% of fuel used on track would be about right. On the road it would be about 2% of fuel used. These are based on it activating at the correct load and having the correct size nozzle.

I remember that Don's S70 racer had a big old tank just for the water - looked about 10l from guessing! That would stack up with Tim's 10% figure.
