silly me, I forgot that bit lol
p fandango (Saturday 26th June 2010)
again another day not doing much, because all the internal bonnet structure has been binned there was nothing stopping it sliding down too far on the bonnet pins. So this morning i cut some spacers from the garden hose & got it sitting right
finally sitting flush as it should, look at the arch gap on that lol
garden hose used to keep it at the right height lol
i did think about raising the rear edge, but think theirs enough ventilation already
i also gave her a quick hose down, nice to see her looking almost decent again lol
after looking at the pics above i noticed when you look under the bonnet from the windscreen all you can see is the metal panel used to hold the scuttle panel, so went & ground it off to try help the under bonnet ventilation a bit more. I was going to cut the whole lot but the chassis number is on there & the brake servo is over the drivers side so didn't bother

Starting to look like a proper car again Duane nice one!, how far away are you from starting it? and progress with the pcv pipework?.
Cheers

cheers mate, i was amazed how well she looks after a wash (some of the paint is quite bad now tho).
To get her running i need to bypass the radiator (38mm from thermostat to engine for now), tidy & secure the bypass pipes for the oil cooler, some new pipe for the IC pipework (i'm not using a idle valve so need to replace that section), get the throttle wheel welded to manifold, wire the kill switch, charge the battery, put some fuel oil & water in then i think thats it mate
i've just replanned the PCV using 19mm pipe now instead of the 15mm i was originally using, here's a list of what i think we'll need mate (just got to wait till pay day before i order any more stuff lol)
- 19mm pipe x2 LINK (pipe will fit straight onto the crank breather, also used for the block breather with the below reducer, then T-piece to catch tank)
- 28mm - 19mm reducer LINK (reducer for the block breather)
- 19mm T-piece LINK (to connect both crank & block breather to the catch tank)
- 20mm bung (to plug up the sump return, already got a spare for you mate)

Cheers mate, just a thought any idea what Russ (RT) did with his?
Got any pics of a pcv and your plans?

Russ had a special catch tank made with more inlets, & from the pic he T'd the crank breather to the sump (& then ran seperate pipes as well). I'm blocking the sump because i think its only an oil return & not a breather. Then linking the block & crank breathers, then a single pipe to the catch tank (i'll do a pic later)

right Mr James, i've ordered all the stuff for the PCV. I've only ordered 1metre of 19mm pipe for now but we'll see how it goes when everything turns up
i've also fitted the bonnet pins properly (they weren't bolted on before) & cut the sheet steel for the fan mounting to size, got to get some jigsaw blades to cut the hole for the fan & some longer bolts & spacers for clearance from the radiator
again not upto doing much but spent some time spraying the interior, finished cutting the radiator panel (altho might cut some holes in to help weight & air flow) & a few more bits turned up so might get some done over the weekend
only a temporary coat to see how well it came out, think (Volvo) silver has got to be the colour to go for. Going to sand it back & prep it all better next time
just need some washers to secure the fan on, & spacers to keep it away from the radiator then just the wiring
Getting there mate! Good stuff

finally went & got the inlet manifold gasket, i've took a took so you can see the difference. While i was at the main stealer i asked about the Volvo tool to remove bonded windows (basically cheese wire & 2 handles), was told they don't sell it seperate anymore & could only buy it as a complete kit, for £1200
pre-ME7 on top, ME7 underneath
haven't had chance to do much lately, but while at the wedding reception i had a word with my uncle who used to be an MOT inspector. A few people have said about the boot floor being structural so couldn't get an MOT, asked my uncle & even shown him a pic i'd got on my phone (sad ain't it lol) & he said it wasn't a problem. I've not cut the 2 chassis rails & aslong as theirs about 12" around any important mounting points (axle & shock mounts) it'll be fine
Have you asked how you stand with removing the large brace that went under the rear seat as that was within 300mm of rear suspension mountings?
Looking really good Duane. Seems I have missed a lot of progress with your car, hows the S60 doing?
Rumour is, im on the look out for another T5...
