Fill through the dip stick tube.
Don't overfill as that is worse than not quite enough

to check the level on a autobox you need to have the gearbox hot. so check it after going for a drive not when cold.

To check the atf level do the following:

    1. Get the car to normal operating temperature..
    2. Move the gear selector lever through all the gear positions stopping for a few seconds in each position.
    3. Return the lever to the park position and with the engine still idling wait two minutes.
    4. Remove the dipstick and check the level. It should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the side of the dipstick marked HOT. The difference between the two marks is approximately 0.5 litre.

If the transmission is not hot use the side of the dipstick marked COLD
The fluid has to go in the dipstick tube but only add a smallish amount at a time AND go through the same procedure each time you add fluid.

Well what can i say, We DID have it I was surprised as well

All the times ive worked on Volvos and i never noticed the gearbox fluid dip stick

Needed about 1/2 ltr to take it to just under the HOT line.

Still jerky when going into reverse but a lot smoother gunning it from the lights

    Cheers guys

It was Dextron 3 that went into it when i did the complete change but cheaper stuff when the other lad did the top up.

We have a PC database that we use for all fluids and basically anything to do with any cars, so its a handy tool to have

    Cheers
