    T5's and mileage

    Hi everyone,

Currently considering an 850 T5 asa cheap performance runaround.

Ive seen a few T5R saloons with over 150k on them.

How are these engines with high mileage especially given that if i bought one i'd like to rica it andm aybe add a 3" exhaust.

Any known common faults to look out for or things that could cost a bit of money with this sort of mileage?

    Cheers

    Mine did 180,000.
But the gearbox gave up, and the crankcase pressure went through the roof?
Other than that it was good as gold!

I'd not be worried by that mileage so long as your prepared to sort out the consumables (bushes, hoses, regular services, decent oil etc) there have been many many T5's on here that have gone way over the 200k mark and still proved reliable.

In fact IIRC at a dyno day a few years ago Justins old 850 T5 with nearly 190K gave out some of the higest BHP and torque figures of the day! lol

I'm at 196,000, and running great. Very full service history is summat look out for, you can tell the difference at the higher mileages, if a car has been looked after properly. I still keep the services up on mine....

Replacing the breather system (PCV for short) to avoid high crank case pressure and premature failure of oil seals. These engines are virtualy bullet proof if well looked after and serviced, I've had four now and none of them has been under 150,000 miles.

cant add much more than has been said but mileage isnt an issue as long as you keep up with normal serviceing. my dad used to own a K reg 2.0 20v auto 850 had it for 7years from 2years old although that was sold due to the PCV system blowing rear oil seal,.. it was also touching 378,654miles,.. haha thats one figure i remember,. but yes engines are bullet proof long as kept clean
