Question Changing gear selector, console removal ?

Im looking to change the gear selector in my auto T5

T5pete kindly donated a nice wood effect one instead of the drab grey one

Ive removed the 2 8mm bolts in the arm rest area but it still seems solid where it meets the bottom of the ashtray area

Has anybody got a linky on how to remove the center console, or any tips ?

    Cheers

    Lee

P.S. i have used the search function and cant find anything

take the ashtray out mate, there should be 2 screws holding that bit in. Must be other screws too but I'm sorry I've no idea where they are. Even Mr Haynes bible isn't to clear.

Screws holding the console on are.....

    You've already got these

Then some by the coinholder (lift it up to reveal) and cigarette lighter

Then remove the tray and disconnect the wiring to cigarette lighter

And underneath should be two more screws

I think thats it, there might be two behind the ashtray, but try it anyway. Then disconnect all thw wiring connectors and pul the console back a bit and lift it up. Obviously this is for manual g/box, but I'm guessin the auto is more or less the same.

Never mind the console how the hell do i get the linkage of the shifter itself.

    Few Piccys for you Pete

Large clip that holds the selector in place

    Linkage attached to the Shifter

Selector from the side, the bit with the round hole is where the shifter meets the linkage

On amother matter what is this big weight for from under the rear of the center console, must weigh about 1kg

    Cheers

And heres and exploded diagram for you

Looks like you have to pull up number 35 and pull out number 29 from the left hand side (maybe?)

    Here's a closeup

Sorry bud, image hosting site reduces the size of them. If you save the pic to your comp then you can view it better as the viewer on here doesn't do them justice. Or PM me and I can send you the originals
