I reckon it all depends on when you reset it. If I reset mine as I begin the downhill motorway stretch on the way home, my average over the whole tank will always be higher than if I reset it from a cold start on the town section in the morning.
Also, a pet hate of mine, is that after successfully getting the ave mpg above 30 by driving conservatively during the day, when I turn the engine on the next morning I have lost ~0.3mpg! Where does this go overnight?!? Slow fuel leak? Or does the car drive itself (uneconomically) while I sleep?

Yes they do - some of the more lively ones go clubbing or out on the pull for TT's or Boxters . Mine often comes back in a right state, hungover, kebab wrappers, and a string of mobile numbers ----------- it's a reat tart.

    Wink

some heavy right feet out there, I regularly get 30-32 from mine standard t5 though and mostly 'A' roads. On the accuracy question the only way to do it is to fill the tank to the top, drive it round all week and go back and refill to the top.

Fuel required to refill \ miles run = mpg

I know it uses more fuel carrying round a full tank but its the only real way to know if your computer is accurate.

yep, agree, only way to be spot on, the trip computer works sometimes, but generaly, its higher mpg on trip, but in reality its worse!

We were managing just under 40mpg in Jacqs T4 on the way back from London, sitting at 80-90 most of the way, its not as good on day to day driving though.

So, whats the lowest anyone has gotten?

I worked mine out based on Knockhills lap distance and the amount I used in a 2 hour open pit night, it was in to the single figures, ouch. Obviously this was VERY spirited lol.

Still Volvo links though as my wife has a V50 R design sport and a mildly fettled T4

A 106 diesel is very frugal.
A 850T5 is very thirsty (and quick).

My trip resets itself everytime you turn the engine off, thanks Cambridge Constabulary and there is no trip computer. But, driven with a fair amount of right boot, always taking the long way home down the lancs and the odd 40mile run, mine does about 28 ish. Thrash it and it drinks faster than me

The Alfa has all the computery bits on it. At 60 it will do 45mpg. At 80 its down to 32. Higher and its T5 consumption

Well im pretty sure im over fuelling.

Ive put in 20 litres exactly and am going to drive until i use that up, ive recorded my mileage and set my tripmeter.

I dont have a computer on mine so it makes it more difficult.

Steady 70 yesterday the needle didnt move though all the way to work.

I looked through the sutotrader though and apart from a 306tdi or a BWM 5 series 525tds there is nothing at all that appeals to me, The volvo just has everything you want. so i'll get the codes read and perhaps do a stage 0 tune up and see how i get on. I dont ever remember using this much fuel when i first got it thats all, im sure i used about £30 a week same mileage.

And he reckons he isnt thrashing it all the time.....

He says the needle is visibly moving in first second & third gear!!!

I feel a bit better running the R now....

    Smile Fuel..

I get between 24.5 and 25.6 on most tankfulls - and the OBC is accurate as I have checked it manually by brimming the tank numerous times -for my daily driving.

I have a 15 miles each way drive to work on "challenging" B roads, and the usual pottering about through the week. The most it's ever done was 29.7 on a long run down to Portsmouth at 85-90 ish the whole way and back..

Car is a 2000 V70N T5 with a BSR upgrade. I run a K&N replacement filter and use ZX1 in the engine and gearbox. Also, I only use 95 RON petrol, albeit with some REdline Si1 fuel additive..

Pretty happy with that in all honesty. Work cars ( I am a cop) are considerably worse. 150 miles or so on a night shift typically yields about 16 mpg..

    Fuel continued...

    Forgot to mention.

I used to have a 335 bhp Graham Goode modified Escort Cosworth that averaged 19/20mpg for daily driving and a lot less when driven "enthusiastically"..

And before that I had an Impreza. A WRX STi Type 4 import job that I used to use for a weekly commute from Cornwall to Sheffield (a 700 mile round trip.) At moderate motorway speeds (90-ish) it did about 19 mpg. On a B road "showing off" session, 12 mpg was occasionally seen. That car also would not even entertain anything other than 98 RON or 97 RON with Millers Octane Plus.. I leave the fuel bill to your imagination...

Both were running spot-on and were much loved and fettled examples, so they weren't running rough....

    Wink

Nice to see "a cop" cruising at realistic motorway speeds

Anyway ive done 100 miles on 20 litres on 95 RON unleaded, steady driving.

This means a full tank would take me 350 miles.

Perhaps its my driving style or perhaps ive done some trips this month ive forgotten about? Its settled the Volvo stays
