    Please Help fuel economy.....!

Guys as i dont have an OBC i have little means of working out how much fuel i am using, just the fuel bills but im sure im over fuelling.

I need to know whether you think this high.

Usual day, short trip - school run (car fully warms up though) 3miles max
Trip to work - Motorway run average 70 - 80mph distance 26miles there and back.

So each day an average of 30 miles call it. Add on a bit for the weekends and call it approximately 60miles a week distance.

I am spending approximately £45 a week on fuel = 75p per mile.

Lambda light is on and has been for some time, (gonna get the codes read this morning hopefully) Could be O2 sensors????

Does anyone else doing regular mileage per week spend this amount on fuel?

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi your my only hope.......

I get 260 miles for £50, so i think you may be using a bit more than you should. Especially that quite a bit is motorway miellage.

Cheers guys but could this be a problem on the horizon????

Not sure if i can afford to keep up fuel costs at the mo.

Ive used £110 in 11 days.....which would average at about £300 a month.

    Thats heavy expenditure.

To give you a comparison I do M1, M25 & M20 (Leicester to Kent) on £59.00 of fuel. 165 miles there and 165 miles back.

I get anywhere between 360 to 420 mi per tank, solely dependant on traffic onditions. Trip is saying 27 MPG for last 5 tanks. Highest I've had is 28.9 over about 10 tanks.

Work & back is 820 mi per week so 2 tanks @ average £55 per tank. I use Optimax for average 4/5 fills, and run REDEX in maybe 1/3 tanks. Sadly tho got Texaco 97 ron in today, don't like it, much more lumpy on tickover. Back to Opti at lunchtime.

I can get 30-35mpg if I get her in top quickly and drive her off boost and dont exceed 2500 rpm in any gear!
But that has only happened a few times, most of the time time my computers saying 23-26 mpg thats with a fair bit of mixed driving and currently showing 24.9.
Ive tried my best one week to see if I could get her in the teens thrashing her everywhere and all town work I strugled to get her below 20.4 mpg!

On the last tank full i averaged 25.6mpg... that included a 220 mile round trip to Bridlington doing 70 - 100mph and having fun on A roads.

Filled up yesterday, done 35 miles average 18.3mpg round town.

I am only getting about 120-130 mile per £20.00. Does that sound alot?
that will be alot of knocking around town and a bit of motorway miles...

I do have the odd burst now and again!!

On one of my enthusiastic trips from my house to my girlfriends which is exactly 40miles the car would get through a tenner in fuel, however cruising at 70 it would return 33mpg no problems.

Thing is dave, its only reading 20.7-20.9 on my computer?? Are they accurate or not?

My brothers mpg meter on his BMW is just a joke, up down, up down what a waste of time!! You would never get an accurate reading from it.

So anyway back to volvo..... if it works out at 26ish my computer is a mile away!!! get it !! Mile away....
