7 Seat conversion Good or Bad ?

What are your views on the 7 seay conversion for the 850

Not being able to afford a " Proper " MPV i think combined with the Volvo Build Quality they are an excellent addition to the car, it just shows how versatile the car can be.

Would be interesting just to hear everybodys views on the subject

What's made you start this Poll Lee? lol

I'm with you mate, I think they're a excellent addition to any 850, IMO the only drawback is having a puncture and having to drive home on a pramwheel !!

I am personally not too keen on them,I much rather fork out for purpose built mpv like XC90 or even a Galaxy.Putting your kids in a cars location designed to bear the brunt of a rear end collision and facing the seats backwards so kids can see their impending doom not a good idea.Volvo ended production of this seats for a reason and it must have been good.

Thats just my view on them .

Cream leather rear seven seat conversions are available from the States for about $249.99 IIRC but thats not including delivery. I like the idea but in reality they are dangerous in an accident situation and bump your insurance premium up considerably as I found out when asking about them.

I think they're great, much more versatile than a Galaxy (which I used to have). Just fold them up or down, not like humping the Galaxy seats around. Kids love them too.

I suspect Volvo only stopped making them (didn't know they had?) because they want people to buy the XC90, and also because demand will have fallen since XC90 came out, plus all other seven seaters you can get now.

When they first started making these there won't have been many other seven seaters around - Merc E class and some Peugeot estates, or else a transit with seats!

Ive too have insured mine as a 7 seater, it only cost me £550 FC with no no claims, now that cant be bad, ive also got a rebate winging its way to me as we speak of £103.50 as it was insured as being Rica'd which it turns out its not, Bonus !

That almost pays for the Rica from Hamish

If you need em you need em. To me they are not a lot of use i doubt they are dangerous as some think just from the fact the cars they are fitted to. Just no use to me as i have no young kids (thank god) and in any case they would,nt fit with the lpg tank i have. As for a 7 seater being better/safer? i would'nt be so sure. Tis JUST my opinon. Yes i've had both.

    I agree with Mo,

There is some very worrying crash data, i did consider a set but when i researched it i had a change of mind.

I always considered carrying puncture repair slime kit, but was told that once you've used the slime on a punctured tyre, the tyre would then be knackered for good. Any truths in this?

The question is , if on a long journey, fully loaded up in the boot, do you want to 'p' around with unloading/reloading and changing the wheel, then running on a spacesaver at 50mph, or phoning the AA who will still do the same, or use the slime get where you are going then sort it out? Chances are the integrity of the tyre is shagged anyway after you got the puncture, so it will need changing as soon as. The slime will just allow you to get where you are going easily. Its not designed to get you to the track, and then race on it.....

Some people put this in as a preventative measure rather than a cure ;-)

Funnily enough the XC90 or Merc ML270 is the next car on the list for me, or maybe a V70R AWD ;-). It has to deal with winters in North Yorkshire.....
