How to turn off Headlights ?

on my 2001 V70 tdi estate the headlights come on with the ignition.

on my old volvo i had a daylight fuse that could be removed so the lights didn't come on with the ignition.

is there anything i can do on this one?

    Thanks Jeff.

I remember on my old V70 that the last owner cut a wire behind the lights on switch.

Not ideal if you dont know which one it is, but the lights only come on when i switched them on.

Don't know if it applies to your model or not but the mod for the 850's was to bend one of the pins flat in the headlight relay, can't remember which pin off hand though.

my t reg 99 c70 has a small flat screw beside the light switch on the dash,if you turn it with an electrical screwdriver through the 3 settings one turns of the d.l.r. lights off.the wifes s60 doesnt have the screw so i don't know if yours will but her car doesnt have the lights permenently on.

If its the car in your avatar then its a dealer/Vadis job only.

Pin 56b on the lighting relay on the 850 and classic 70. I'm not sure if its the same as yours. I have done this to mine and it works as I have fitted a HID kit to my car. Make sure you get the right pn on the realy to fold over as there are loads of 56 designated pins. HTH.

I dont mind the side lights being on but it will shorten the life of my HID's if they are on all the time.

Going to try the relay pin cutting this weekend,
Now wheres my hammer and mole grips!!

Ring your local main dealer for price of software upload for turning lights off, the cutting pins etc is Pre ME7, as Mo and I have both said, its a software change required.

Cutting pins will simply result in rendering a relay useless, P2 electrics are light years way from the 850 Motronic stuff

Phase 2 relays are not cheap either to replace, probably same price as paying a dealer to turn the DRL's off. With a bent pin theres possibility that your will throw a fault code on the info display.
