Talking Volvo T5 powered mid engined pick up

This is my current project,a pick up for drag racing with a T5 motor in the back
Should be a laugh & its a bit different from all the turbo nova's running up the strip! I do run my 850R at santa pod but its now got to the point where a 14sec quarter isnt enough & to progress much further means stripping the car out & spending a few thou on the bottom end...pistons,rods,billet crank etc & i dont want to strip my road car, so this was my next idea
Engine will be in this week end,i'll keep up posted on how its comming on.

Fantastic Ive had a couple of felica's the 1.3 was better balanced in the handling stake than the 1.6 due to the difference in weight between the alloy and iron vw lump! But your solution answers all the problems, good luck with the project and would love a go when its done!

Thanks for the comments.I did also have the idea of fitting it into a 106/saxo but the rear of the volvo subframe mounts didnt really allow enough room & then its just too dam noisy with an engine within the passenger compartment so this was almost the ideal thing to do.Separate drivers area to the engine etc, ease of working on as there's plenty of room around the engine bay & its not that bigger job to take out the whole lump through the top.I have also considered(& i no you may all think im mental!)fitting another T5 lump/box etc in the front if this isnt quick enough, but im going to see how it goes first before i decide.

You may need to adjust all the damper rates though

I no what you mean about damper rates,Ive been trying to find someone that does coil overs for a T5 but they seem very hard to get hold of...& im only needing the fronts which makes it even more of a prob.Spoke to a guy from spax & he says he can send me 2 blank unbuilt coil over casings for me to weld my own hub mountings on & then send em back for them to powder coat & build up to my spec...good but not cheap, however its looking like the only option at the mo.

Strange you say that...i was at skegvegas stadium sat night looking at F1 & F2 set ups.The guy at spax recons around £250 a leg but thats with me making & welding my own mounts.Only trouble with the stock car set up is wheel travel...or lack of it lol So it looks like im going to have to use a standard..ish coil over type.

Just a quick update.Roll cage has been formed over this weekend & will be welded in by end of next week...then its the rear space frame thats next. Also polly carb windows have been added for saftey reasons but with the added lack of weight bonus, doors & bonnet have been stripped & any unwanted material removed.
