    wonky wipers

    Hi fellow Volvo fans.
I have a 97 850 t5 estate and yesterday the front screen wipers
decided to park in the middle of the screen.
Is the park switch incorperated in the wiper motor or is there a
    seperate relay or control unit.
    Thanks Ashley

Both I believe. You have a switch in the mechanism, then a relay to handle the current.

Is the wiper still working - i.e does it just park itself in the wiorng place? Or has it just stopped in the middle?

Might be worth doing a bit of testing with the arms flipped up or taken off the spindles.

Horrid things wipers! Always seem to break when its raining!!

    Good luck

Check that you have a permanent live to the motor as it needs it for the park switch in the motor to function, sometimes if this feed is lost then it looses it's ability to park correctly.

Agree with NoBananas - prob a minor elec problem with the switch or wiring. As he says check the perm live feed to the motor with a meter or a test lamp before you waste any time and money on a new motor. If you have a manual the wiring diag shoud show which one it is.

If it is just a minor prob with the park switch, by the time you pul it apart and clean it it may be just easier to slap a replacement assembly in if you can get one cheap (and in good condition !!!!!). from memory there is a cam thing inside the cover which opreates a wee microswitch. But that memory is of doing the same thing with an Alfa and a Rover, NOT a Volvo, but the principle will be the same even if the engineering is slightly different. he he Alfa and electrics dont go well together!!

With things ike this I tend to keep the old one, fix it and then I can swap it back in if the new one gives up in the first few weeks.
