Poor radio reception

I've just moved my Kenwood head unit from my old RS2000 to my '99 S40 2.0.

Now the radio was perfect in the RS, but it now seems to be forever chasing a signal and most of the time, not getting it!

Could it be an aerial problem? Has anyone had any problems with those aerials stuck on the nearside wing? This is driving me nuts!

Radio reception isn't great in my 1998 S40, I've just about given up with radio and just use CD's instead now. I figured the electric aerial musn't be up to much.

What aerial is in the S40s? In the S60 I have a dual amplified thing in the rear bumper which gives me no end of grief on my PC.
Is the aerial amp powered? In mine it is a box under the rear lights and takes a voltage from the OEM HU.

I changed my 2001 V40 oem aerial for a nice little sharkfin one and the reception although not bad is no where near as good as it used to be does anyone have any ideas how to make it better? I connected all the wires as should be but I would like a better reception.
