i admit i also fail to see how a vent designed for the air intake on the subaru's top mounted intercooler will benefit a car with a intercooler mounted at the front, and the air intake pipe mounted at the front?

as Jod T5 mentioned, the best method for extracting warm air seems to be using modified bonnet hinges and removing the water seal. the warm air naturally rises up and out of the engine bay through the back of the bonnet.

the key to a cooler engine is getting rid of the hot air,
on all my trackday cars i remove all the under-bonnet soundproofing which holds in heat,
i also remove the seal around the back of the bonnet and raise it up if possible,

3-door sierra cosworth vents would look nice (and work well) in the back corners of an 850 imho...

There shouldn't be any danger from sucking up water as long as you also keep your standard air intake. I've run a low scoop (behind the grill just inside the foglamp) for years now and have driven through flood water without any problems but this is only because I also have my standard intake as well, as long as there is another passage for air other than the lower intake there won't be enough suction to draw up water, I wouldn't recommend hurtling into flood water 'rally' style however !

I raised the rear of mine (mk 1 escort stylee) to let the hot gases out which in turn also allows for more cool air in at the front!

Do like the scooby vent but does take the old "wolf in sheeps clothing " concept away, unless that's what you want of course..the merc bonnet vent is a nice touch (yet to be done) but are the road driving gains in the vents worthwile..if not and you only need the vents on a track day get a spare bonnet and louvre the hell out of it...
