Is there any performance reason for fitting DV's?

    Can someone please clarify this.

We have plenty of folk who insist on fitting dump valves onto the T5 - what i want to know is why?? Is there is any performance gain in doing so?? If there is nothing to be gained performance wise then what other reason whould you fit it for??

    In laymens terms please folks!

Dump valves and recirc valves both prevent turbo stall during gear changes.
The recirc valve has the advantage of recirculating the excess pressure in the clean air side, by putting it back through the turbo blades. DV's just dump it into the engine space.

You missed the question! I know the difference between a recirc and DV!! What i am asking is why would anyone put a DV on if they already have a recirc!

Sorry - They both do the same thing. DV's dump the excess pressure into the engine bay. There is no point having both.

The only reason people would bother IMHO with a DV is coz of the noise. Performance wise there is a small loss in fitting DV.

a). because you are venting air from a metered system.
b). because you are not using that air to keep the blades spinning.

If you want to fit a DV then the recirc needs to be removed.

Dave is right - it's all about noise only! That is the only reason for an aftermarket atmospheric dump valve. If your standard recirc valve is working properly, then there is no need to replace it.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHY "THEY" WOULD WANT IT - IT IS A COMPLETE MYSTERY TO ME!

    You asked the question

what i want to know is why??
Is there is any performance gain in doing so??
    And I said

If you had no idea then why bother answering??

There have been numerous threads of late asking how to fit a DV and which is best etc and i wanted to know why those who are/have fitted them have done so.

Why does the thread suck????? I am genuinely interested as to why some people fit a DV and if they do it for anything other than the noise - also what is it about the noise that makes you want to spent money for it???

It is personal preference really. It is attention seeking as much as anything i think - more of a man thing i think. Similar to 'phat' sound systems is generally a way of attracting attention, as are neon lights, 'rude' body kits etc etc.

Hit the nail on the head there. Each to his own. I think they sound wack, and remind me of kevved up escorts. Wouldn't go as far as to say it was a man thing though. Plenty of Slutton girlies have them too...

They fit it because of the noise.

There is a detrimental effect on engine performance when you fit one as opposed to the standard item.

It's the same as the small wheels vs big wheels argument. Big wheels look great, but don't perform as well as smaller wheels etc.

    I understood you Dave.

    Cheers,

    Gwaredd.

Mrs Mopp this is an easy one, I got a dump valve on my car for performance hence the 13.6 1/4 mile, it is all cause of my super dump vlave thing.lol
