    1.6 to 1.8

hi anyone swapped the 2 engines i bought a 1.6 and to be honest its very slow and sluggish when full but thats to be expected i like the car but could do with a bit more power but still keeping the economy so apart from the engine and ecu is their anything else i would need to do the swap or is it a case of everything needs swapping ie shafts manifolds front suspension.
i may consider the 2.0 if i come across a 2.0 instead of a 1.8 but ile ask about that another time.

Hi,we've changed these several times,no mods needed at all, yours being a '99 i expect you have the later vvt engine,so as long as you fit a 1.8 that is also a vvt it goes straight in without any problem at all.

thats excellent news, now all ive got to figure out is why my front end sits so high up its so much higher than any v40 ive seen and i cant see a reason for it.

2.0 is rather more involved and it would probably be easier to just sell yours and buy a 2.0 version than do the swap, regards the ecu we have left the original ecu in place and it works fine on the 1.6 to1.8 swap.I think on the S40 range that the ecu is coded to other components so you may well wish to avoid the extra work and expense anyway.
