    Strange humming noise while driving

    Hi Guys,

I have a 2000 P2 T5 once the engine gets warm i get a funny humming noise which seems to stop either when i depress the break peddle or when i move the steering wheel.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Sounds like front wheel bearings. Jack up the front wheels and check for play i.e. wear.

Does sound like the bearings, try and listen when you go round corners,if it gets louder when cornering in one direction and quieter going the other way then it is a wheel bearing. They can often be noisy without exibiting play and can be a little tricky to pinpoint.Might be useful to carry a passenger when listening for it to help define where the noise is coming from.

I did mine a couple of months ago. The good news is that you don't need a hydraulic press to get them out. The bad news is make sure you don't pop the o/s driveshaft as it's very easy to do!
