i checked all the fuses first and there doesnt seem to be one in the fuse box.

Check the instrument cluster bulbs.
Don't know about your 850 but on my P2 V70 the trip or mileage readouts appear blank if the bulbs aren't working. Don't know my it should be so but the lcd displays can't be seen if there isn't a working bulb behind it.

hi just been to my local volvo spec and he said there is no fuse for the computer and i could be that the plug may have been knock off or come lose, which is worrying because the plug is behind the dash and you have to take the cockpit cover off to get to it apparantly this can be done if someone has tried messing about with the clocks.
