Question Direct Cold Air Intake Kit

    Hi guys,
continued on the theme of the drilled airbox and cold air feed,
i initially planned simply to drill a largeish hole in the bottom of my airbox and run a pipe/ hosing to the bottom grille on my car,
since then tho i have seen universal direct cold air intake kits
the company i have been looking at are JETEX who are swedish!!!

    http://jetex.co.uk/Jetexwebsite/index2.html

    am i understanding this correctly,
i propose to buy the kit pictured and drill a hole big enough to attach the bottom of the cone to the bottom of my airbox and run the provided pipe to the grille as before,
i dont fancy replacing my standard feed as i think you are meant to
    will i lose all benefit?
is this a waste of cash??
    help

ps just recieved this email from jetex - dont really understand it tho...
" If you are thinking of keeping the existing air box base and drilling holes, then this may be a good idea. You would then be ensuring a good cold air feed into the base of the cone through the bottom of the air box, and you would be getting a good cold air feed through the end of the cone filter.

You would certainly not detract from the worth of the DCAF kit."

I dont see any direct problems with what you are trying to do, but all I will say is in general I dont like the idea of having a open cone filter no matter how much cold air you feed to it.

You induction intake should be protected from the engine bay heat as much as possible.

I'm currently making a suitable housing for a cone filter with a direct cold air feed, but it will be completly enclosed.

yeah thats a fair point bracer!!
you can get a carbon covered one for an exta 20quid
but i think this is all proving a bit expensive so im gonna stick with just the ducting to a hole in the bottom initially , where did u get yours? looks like good stuff.

has anyone got any stats on how the power increases with drilling the air box and is it a good idea to just drill it without ducting it to a cold supply .cos my brothers golf vr6 had a cone air filter on it and it made it noisy and slower without re mapping it . by the way nice looking engine pedro
