    Police Power!

I'm currently editing a film for a programme I am doing about the emergency services and this story is about a high speed ambulance escort and we want to state the BHP of the police V70 Volvo. Now my T5 is 250 but is an 51 plate. The police one is 06 so I think is a newer engine.

    Any ideas? Thanks

    The late Phase 2 T5's are 260bhp I think.

    Thanks guys

Apparently they don't tweak them anymore as they are fast enough as is. They sometimes upgrade the brakes because of the extra weight of kit/guns etc.

Also the Cop I was out with yesterday said most of the guys he knows prefer the T5 to the 530d's which are slowly replacing all the T5's!

Police spec cars don't have engine modifications, other than speed limiter deleted and the adaptive mapping set to be in performance mode.

The BMWs go around bends better whilst the T5s are great in a straighter line.

Some BIB prefer the 535D over both the T5 and 530 but few forces invest in them.

Oh the BMWs are far more fuel efficient

also, i remember when a local police force phased in a load of mercedes with the intention of phasing out the Volvos.... big mistake that was, and parts delivery times was an important factor. they dont like having cars off the road for too long, and the mercedes parts supply was a bit of a piss take apparently, and they have since given up with the mercedes in favour of the mighty volvo (they do have a couple of bmw's though, but the Volvo is definitely a police favourite)

The BMW is more efficient. But is it cost effective?? Ours a 530d, does 24mpg for everyday use at work. The T5 sits at 21 mpg, same work. Given that diesel costs a fair bit more, I can't see that the BMW will be cheaper in the long run from a fleet managers point of view. They are also incredible plasticy inside, if you get a chance, push that silver bit of plastic that crosses the dash and watch it flex and creak. Not with my money thanks.

Back on track I think the six speed T5 is 260 bhp.

to get as low as that with the bmw diesel, you must be driving it like nutters!, even my 535d cant manage that low!, maybe need to learn to drive in a more green fashion, you cant spend allday chasing down baddie's

My 855 T5 S does 26mpg around town and 35mpg on a long run, 26mpg is driving it like i was driving miss daisy never over 1500rpm. Kinda takes the point out of having a T5 but in this economical state that we are in every extra mile helps.
