Black trim It works!!!

Okay after a hint from bradley and T5-TEZ (Thanks for the tips guys) on this site i used a heat gun on the black trim panels that the headlamp wiper spindles poke though to bring them back to black. And it works as long as you keep the heat gun moving so as to not melt the trims and watch for the oils coming to the surface you will be okay, it's the oils that give the colour back. see pics for what it looks like!

can you do this on the door trims aswell?

You can do it on any plastic trim so long as its thermoplastic and not thermosetting, generally soft plastics are thermoplastic and hard plastics are thermosetting. However i have done this to my works volvo and im afraid that the effect is temperary, the oils will wash away with a combination of road salt and detergents.

Saw a Top tip on restoring trim on one Sat channels the other day. Apparently Smooth peanut butter does the Biz as well, rumour has it that it lasts longer than back to black as well.

Must say though I've not tried it yet

i think it was the oil on the surface of peanut butter,not the peanut butter.
i saw something about it somewhere aswell.looked good but i think it will only be a temp fix

Glad you got it sorted mate,it makes such a differance doesnt it.
If you apply a good plastic trim treatment on them they sould last longer.

May seem a bit of a cowboy job, but i use Wax shoe polish, you know the liquid type, the one with the sponge on the top, cost - 85p, does the whole car about 10 times and lasts about 3 months each time, good cheap alternative to back to black which i dont rate at all.

I use the Kiwi black shoe liquid wax for my door handles and it works a treat and like you said lasts 3 times longer than back to black.

Morrisons own liquid shoe polish. I use it to cover up if I go a bit overboard with polish and wax and get it on the trims.

Does the job. Not quite what it says on the tin.........

Have to be careful not to get it on the paintwork else it's quite hard to remove (like getting polish/wax on the plastic). Am I going round in circles here?

Heat gun only lasted about two weeks then back to grey!
might just paint them the same colour as the body.

Mmmmmm , now if you use the peanut butter on one part and the shoe polish on others and the BB/oil as well you are set for a night out ! Food , grooming and some lube..............

For permenant black results then only product I have found that works is

Forever Black

Have some pics of ellas old clio, and trim went from grey with white spots and marks, to an almost new black (has a very slight sheen, but not a orrible glossy/shiny finish)

If I can dig oot pics I will upload them

and car nearly a year later, with nothing more than basic wash and dry (no trim treatment at all since application)

Mat of mine used to swear by DBO for his black trim. (that's dirty black oil if you were wondering !)
