    knocking brake pads?

is there anything else i can do to cure the knocking coming from the brake pads on my S70 ?
ive taken the carriers off and given them a good dollop of copper grease in an effort to dampen the noise but what other measures could be taken?
the clips are nice and strong but still allow some movement on the outer pad

You might need new clips as they are sometimes not as strong as you think.

Are you on about front or rear pads mate? If front I have to ask is the caliper spring in place (the large one on the outside of the caliper)

If you are on about the rear then it could be the retaining brackets, which we do a repair kit for. (kits include 4 pins and 2 brackets, the cross shaped ones + )

    CALIPER TENSION SPRING (FRONT):
    P/n: 3546381
    Volvo Price: £3.88 inc vat
Our Price: £3.30 inc vat, plus postage
Postage: £1.14 Royal Mail 2nd class recorded delivery

SET OF REAR PAD MOUNTING CLIPS:
    P/n: 217831 (does both sides, inc 2 x brackets, 4 x pins)
    Volvo Price: £12.46 inc vat
Our Price: £10.59 inc vat, plus postage
Postage: £1.14 Royal Mail 2nd class recorded delivery

If the brackets on the rear pads are fine on the rear, but it is the rear pads your on about, then they also do shims to sit outside the pads which could help. (they dont do them for the fronts)

    PAIR OF REAR SHIMS:
    P/n: 1359772 x2
Volvo Price: £4.82 inc vat, for the pair
Our Price: £4.09 inc vat, for the pair, plus postage
Postage: £1.14 Royal Mail 2nd class recorded delivery

    Hope this helps

    Simon

If clips etc are all okay you could have worn carriers allowing the pads to move up and down causing the clicking.
