    white smoke coming from exhausts

    hi can anbody help ive just got an 850 t5 and know ive got bad smoke coming out of the exhaust and it smells like burning oil, ive checked the water and oil and it doesnt look like the head gasket, but ive read some bits about the turbo oil seals?????? what, how and ££££???? many thanks.

    If it's white smoke, then it's burning water (steam) & most probable a head gasket, if it's got a tinge of blue in it, then yes, it's oil & could be anything from a blocked beather, worn rings or worn turbo.

    Get the head gasket checked 1st, & monitor your levels closely.

    smell the expantion tank see if it smells of oil or petrol

    Do a compression check (haynes manual & the instructions in the tester will tell you how to tell between head gasket, valve seat & rings), check the coolant for oil, & the oil for coolant (mayonaise type gunk on the inside of oil filler cap & dipstick).

    Failing that, take it along to your friendly local garage who can carry out all of the above & a pressure test.
