No difference! They both go to 250-260 bhp when tuned. The software in the Hocus Pocus is a little more aggressive mapping and produces more power than the Volvo does standard.

Adam, you remember what happened to the cat (feline) but how come the T5 doesn't go to 300 as in the 850/70's? I know it's a different engine .....

You just answered your own question... it's a different engine! Different turbo and high compression = crap for tuning for big top end power with software alone.

It seems to me from looking at your webpages, Adam, that the 850 has the oldest engine yet is the most tweakable by software. All the other engines seem newer yet can't get beyond it by any significant amount. Thus I conclude that the 850 is the best car and that all the others are just poor substitutes.

Why did they even bother developing them? They should have kept the same engine and tweaked the car chassis instead!

They did, and they called it the S60 T5 - Same 2.3hpt engine, better chassis.

ITG Filter, few HICO styling bits.
    'STILL Considering' the RICA.
    Not much else, yet...

You also have to remember that although the peak power might not be as easily achievable, the new T5 engines actually have a wider power and torque range, with peak torque being available from approx 1500-5000 rpm. This makes the car more drivable than the older variants.

I know what you are saying Adam is right , but how come all these old 850s are always the fastest on the 1/4 mile ive never seen an S70 or V70 or even an S60 or V70 do less than say a 14.5 yet well tweaked or mapped 850s do it quite often!

The thing is Lance, the average Joe in the street doesn't really care about the 1/4 mile. What they want is a nice new motor that looks good and also performs well.

Personally, if I wanted to win a 1/4 mile race, I wouldn't even start with a Volvo, never mind an 850.

So these new engines may appear to be a step back from the enthusiast's perspective, but for the mass market and for Volvo's target audience they are a big step forward.

Yeah! What does Adam know anyway

850s are still the best and to anyone who thinks otherwise I just have this to say

    /puts fingers in ears

    "la,la,la I'm not listening"
