    Anyone got a MY2000 V70 with DSTC

Does anyone near the Midlands have a V70 fitted with DSTC (as opposed to STC)?

My local specialist and local dealer are having a problem diagnosing a DSTC issue and we need to find another car fitted with the same unit.

If you have a car fitted with the optional DSTC could you please get in touch to see if you could help me. My car is off the road without an MOT and I'm stranded until I can get this sorted. I'm desperate

    "Brake Failure"

The initial fault was manifested by a "Brake Failure" message in the warning display on the dash. At the same time the display conincidentally indicated that an emission service was needed.

My specialist sourced a replacement which ran OK for a couple of months but then displayed exactly the same systems.

Now we are unsure whther there is a fualt or not with the ABS module or whether the fault lies elsewhere. The only way to tell would be to put my ABS module on another car of the same age and specifiaction and see if it displays the same problem. That should prove if my unit is faulty or not.

That may work. I have an office in Newcastle that I travel to regularly. So I could drop the unit off on the way up and collect it on the way back down.

Why do you think WOBBLY DAVE may be able to help?

Sorrty should have said the emission message and DSTC will appear on the screen and disappears for a couple of days then reappears mostly after you go over those slighty higher than normal speed bumps

Have you actually read the DSTC fault codes?
It is quite capable of telling you exactly what's wrong but you'll need someone with a fully hooked-up Vadis system to read the sub-system fault codes.

I had a DSTC failure message about a year ago. I got my local Volvo dealer to just read the diagnostic code for me. It said it was a faulty lateral-g sensor (under the centre console). I replaced the component in 10 minutes. Job done.

Remember that you will need to re-calibrate the DSTC system if you replace any components.

The fault is supposedly that there is a communication failure between the DSTC module and the ECM. No-one seems to be able to understand what that actually means.

Do you have the actual fault code so I can look it up?

You tend to see "Emission System" messages when there's something with the engine, like a boost leak.

The engine control unit is also the "hub" for the car's network. So if you're seeing an engine message and a DSTC message at the same time, that may indeed be because the two units are having problems communicating.

When you go over a high speed-bump, DSTC's pitch & yaw sensor will trigger, and it may be trying to post network messages about what it's sensing but something's going wrong.

I don't have the actual code, but I'll see if I can get it.

Another bit of information that may or not provide a clue. The problem first manifested itself the morning after is was returned by the local garge after they successfully put it through an MOT. Is there any test within the MOT that might have bu**ered something?

Question Do you know how much work is involved?

Thanks for your offer of help. If I get my unit off the car and over to you, do you know how much work is involved in trying my unit on your car? I understand that it is about a 45 minute job for the Volvo garage to do this, and they have done it before. Are you happy to do that?

If you are I'll get the garage to remove my unit and I'll probably get it over to you sometime next Monday or Tuesday.

I don't know if you will need to do so, or if its just a straight swap. Can anyone comment?

I think you'll find that used electrical components won't work on a different car anyway.
All "network" components are keyed to the individual car when installed for the first time.
You can't even swap simple things like window switches or door locks.

Does anyone want a free car valet?

You are quite right. The car is currently at Johnson's in Redditch. The Service Manager says that if we put my module on your car and it was faulty, then your car would then have the fault codes in your computer and would need to go to a garage to get them reset.

Therefore he wants someone with the 2000/1 Model Year car to drop in to Redditch so he can do the swap over and swap back properly. He is offering anyone who is prepared to do this a free car valet.

    Any takers? ........ Please

    Doug
