    What discs and pads?

    Hi guys,

I am considering upgrading my discs and pads on my 1998 C70 T5 and wondering what are the best options and the best place to purchase. Not looking for a mega expensive upgrade but something that will bloody stop the thing, especially as it will be going in soon for a 310 remap.

    Cheers

you have a wide and varied choice - try a few searches

from standard discs and ds2500 to mega super dooper grooved and cross drilled with carbon pads

    and all points in between
    good luck

by the way my brick stops extremely well on standard fare, but i am replacing soon as they're knackered i'm going for 302's to fill the wheels a bit - purely cosmetic

Brembo discs and if you are limited on costs then DS performance would be a good option or premier standards

When i spoke to EBC the range now goes,

Green stuff pads, standard replacement but lower dust

Red stuff pads, upgrade for smaller cars e.g. saxo vts etc.

Yellow stuf pads, upgrade for peformance cars for road use and the occasional track day.

Blue stuff pads, track us only.

When i asked for my car they suggested yellow over red, which i now have front and rear.

Cannot really recomend Brembo as a fair few of us have experienced warping of them rather more quickly than should be.....they seem to be made of something rather soft.....

If you are keeping the car long term, get some proper brakes - that's what I would have done looking back.

It'll cost, but the big brake kits out there do the job.

Or look into the S60R brakes second hand sort of thing.

From what I said about long term, I think the initial layout for a big brake kit will serve well and make sense if you intend to keep the car for 5 years sort of thing.

S60R front calipers are a no-go for the fronts.

They are for the rear though Chris

Having said that, there is a guy on here with the S60R front calipers, but all of the members on VS who know about brakes say that they shouldnt be used due to the little material used for the bracket.

I went for Mintex Discs and fast road pads,

considerably improvement over standard 302's minimal brake dust. zero fade

    reasonably cheap

Thanks Steve. I am looking at the moment at some 3G 20 groove discs and red stuff pads. About £350 all in. What do you reckon?

Personal opinion, wouldnt touch EBC at all, much better pads about. Ferodo DS performance, Pagid etc. Another personal opinion, grooved and drilled discs are just for looks. Better off getting a set of plain zimmermans or brembos. Ive heard good things about 3G on fiat coupes though.
