hello, just registered here today, hopefully someone will be able to help.
my dad has recently purchased a 2000 v70 t5.
on the crossmember below the outlet for the intercooler was alot of grime.it looked like condensed oil vapour if you catch my drift.
he took it back to the dealers and they told him it needed a new radiator. You'll have to forgive my dad here, hes never had a turbocharged car before and thought it was the raditor.
to cut a long story short they cleaned up the oil and told him they replaced a seal.
he gets home and the outlet is leaking oil at quite an alarming rate.
there is no smoke from the exhaust so it appears the oil is not finding its way into the inlet manifold.
my questions are these(excuse my ignorance i've never had a turbo before).
1.should there be any oil in the intercooler at all?
2.are most modern turbos oil fed, do they have oil seals within the turbo?
3.anyone know what turbo they run?
4.whats the average lifespan of a turbo?
i remember from my vw g60 days that oil in the boost pipes isn't good.does the same apply to turbos?
he has only had this car a week and has been majorly messed about.having to buy replacement keys and alarm fob which have yet to be coded.
i need a bit of info before i resort to violence on the dealer
cheers
