I bought a car once ( RS Turbo ) had it 1 week and got up in morning to see it driving away, called police and it was cornerd about 10 miles away ( damaged cos they tried to hop a kerb and central reservation ) turned out the guy who sold it also sold the keys to a low life who had followed me home and casually just walked up with keys and spare immobiliser and drove off ...it was just chance i was up at same time to see it or probs would never have got it back !!

Also had a car on Autotrader once , couple of guys came to see it, drove it , looked over it made a ridiculous offer which obvioulsy i didnt take!! Car was nicked that night in Edinburgh ....police think the guys had a device that copied the immobiliser etc and it was another RS so ignition locks dont pose a problem on them ...never ever seen again !!!

Sounds like a good idea to me, didn't somebody mention a while ago that an insurance company was using information gained from a forum to aviod paying out on a claim??.

Niles if you've still got the green one is it worth swaping the locks over ? I always stick a stoplock on mine over night, i know it won't stop the determined thief but it might make the opertunist walk past.
I think the point about site security is relevant, how many of us are on googlemap ? We are all on here because we like our cars so we list the mods and tell everyone what we have and then we make it even easier and show them where we live. A fully passworded site is a good idea, even at the cost of a small membership fee if need be.
Just off to take my details off googlemap

Surely though they will just register as a member ? Costs nothing on most forums, you usually only need an e-mail address. I've joined a couple in the past to get information relating to a problem with a motor or to sell a car and seldom returned to the site. It would surely be extremely difficult to prove that a member was guilty of any involvement with any dodgy do's purely on the grounds that they only visited the site a couple of times .
