What's the best wax/polish for paint protection?

Anyone got any ideas what I should be using on the c70 to give ultimate paintowrk protection?

The reason I say this is that shortly I will be forced to use her to work again, and as its a cement plant I work from she will be battered by dust and airborne sand all day, 6 days a week,- not good for paint work.

I have previously tried all-sorts of the readily available polish/waxes (eg Autoglym, Mer, Grade A finishing polish etc) but still ended up with fine marks in the laquer which I ended up having to get machine polished out.

I don't mind paying out for something which will protect against the dust but just don't know what to go for. I have been told that something called P21 which is a Canauba wax is supposed to be s@@t hot but the reviews I have read on the net all focus on shine rather than paint protection.

Would like to hear your advice guys

Best thing for that kinda environment is regular wash/polish, good quality polish should keep the gremlins away.... leaving it for weeks with dust etc on it is what will kill the glow...

I have to hang my head in shame and declare that I find that dirt is a great protective covering for paintwork, esp stopping cement dust harming the glaze.

I just spent two days valeting my car. Used a clay bar, detailer spray, then autoglym (can't recall the exact name but the one for dark cars) followed by a two coats of autoglym extra gloss. Hard hard work but well worth it.

The man to ask is Rich from polished bliss, as well as Dave!, http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/ Send him an e-mail. He can specify what is good for specific situations and secondarly the look you are after.

Once the hard work is done a wash/wax once a week there after will help to maintain between waxings.

I tried most of the well known products and found them a lot of hard work and not always a great result until i tried Harly wax made from 100% Carnauba wax. Easy to apply and polish off, no streaks or powdery marks and you only need a little to cover the whole car

P21s wax is a very good wax as i'm sure you'll find when you apply it, but it's not known to be a durable wax.
Colinite 476s is a very durable wax and could be the answer to your problem. it may also be an idea to register with the detailing world as these guys know their stuff

Thanx guys for all the advice, apparantley the P21s is able to be built up in layers so I will give it a shot with a good few layers.

At least I now have a good few alternative option should this not work!

Honestly cement dust and airborne sand cause so much damage to paint, even to the point where it is visably noticeable within a few days, its devastating!!!

Unfortunately I just can't justify the cost of putting my scrap heap (cavalier td) through another test as the repair bill would probably resemble a telephone number lol!, so guess the C70 must come out to play on a daily basis!

Yeah mate, but advice I have had has lead me to believe that the dust will get up and underneath the sheet.

This would mean that when wind makes the sheet move it would be like rubbing paintwork with sand paper.

sure does - gets everywhere, just like sand on the beach.

ruined the paint on my cbr, tried tying it tighter, various padding but still like sandpaper

Most of the tips I have picked up are from www.detailingworld.com

    and

    http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/guides.html

    their how to's are excellent

I put together my own photo record of my early attempts..

    http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/galler...y_2006_CYC.htm

There is no substitute for good preparation. Waxing is only the final layer and is not much good if the work underneath is not properly sealed.

To get great shine you need good washing technique - clay once in a while and polish out those swirls.

For good protection without necessarily having a fab shine you need a good quality sealant prior to applying your top coat wax.

Chemical guys have a range of sealants easily purchase over the web
    http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/shop/sealants/c_3.html

I am currently washing every week -2 bucket method - with a M/F washmit
drying with a drying towel - less scratchy and more absorbant than chamois

    every month or so
light polish with my porter cable
    glaze
    seal and wax

I do top ups with presta fast wax or CG insta-wax (which has a sealant in it)
For wheels I use a wheel brush that goes on a battery drill, CG premium blue... http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/shop/w...ner/p_190.html

and Rim wax to seal it - Poorboys wheel sealant is also good. The wax stops the brake dust adhering and makes cleaning dead easy

Mine looks shiny even when it is dirty.

    Cheers Dave,

That's a great help mate, looks like I've got some more money to spend now though - doh!

Step by Step Photo's are a great touch and our lass seems intrigued by the wheel cleaning brush that fits in the end of the drill - she's always been interested by power tools!! Lol!

Will have a good look at detailing world to see if I can pick up some more tips.
