    Talking Forged Pistons

I recently purchased a 1994 850 t5 (been after one for years) but the small end bearings have started to rattle , so I'm having to strip the engine out and would really like to get hold of a set of forged pistons for it. I would welcome anyone who knows where I can get a set from to let me know because I've tried and tried with no joy. My baby has been off the road for 6 months now and I would really like to get her racing again before christmas . Might put pics on of the car at later date. Cheers guys and gals

Hi it really depends what sort of plans you have for your car do you want to go for a standard engine spec build or stronger spec for future upgrades ?

I would like to go for stronger spec because my aim with the car is to try and top 450bhp if that can be done. I know that I can get up to 375 off standard pistons but I want to be able to take it further than that if I choose to. Plus I've got to keep ahead of my cusian who runs a 350bhp nissan 200sx.

    Hi Andy

Basically you can go as far as you like but its not cheap as you probably no to do it properly and make proven power figures.

You will need to think about running a stand alone ecu as we have on our own demo car (Autronic) which is the first uk 850 to have it.

Of course building a big horse power engine is only half of the story don't forget suspension/brakes etc need to be upgraded in a big way to handle the power corrrectly.

    hi russ

I am doing all sorts t the car but my priority is to get it going again so that I can move it out of the workshop, with out having to rebuild again next year. my plan is to uprate the pistons, rods etc, then around about march next year I was planning to take the car to chip tuning at birmingham and let them re map the ecu for me. They claim that with the remap they do there will be no need for a stand alone ecu.

Yes, for practically all applications, the standard ECU will do just fine as it controls everything. So, as long as you are still running 5 cylinders, 5 injectors, 5 spark plugs, and 1 turbo, then remapping the ECU is all you need to control these correctly.

    Hi Andy,
I have a source for very high spec JE pistons and carilo rods. I have just put some in move with and r60 exhaust manifold, RC 750cc injectors, Walbro 255 pump, 3.5" straight through exhaust, Holset HX 40 super w turbo, 2.2 bar boost, all top side ported and flowed. Aquamist kit. Custom intercooler, remaped and boost controler. Custom drive shafts. custom diff and lsd. Oil and transmision cooler. Have got it to 540 WHP and they can go a lot more. Let me know if you need to get pistons and rods. The guys that have done mine are excelent and do a lot for F1.

About £1500 however i did go for the very top spec I could afford. They have less expensive solutions. The company that made the pistons was Perfect Bore (same group as JE and Carilo) and they were supplied by Absolute Motors Sweden.
