    Auto ECU Check

    Hi,

Anyone out there know where you can get the transmission ECU checked out to see if it is working ok???

My box hangs onto first for ages, then changes with a bang,.,,... all other gears ok.... up and down.... just first to second, thought maybe it could be an ECU problem???

Or maybe not... any clues out there?

Sounds similar to what is happening with mine,http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/t12393-n...cratching.html , though not as violently.

Have you changed the ATF - fluid?

This makes a big difference. You can tell if you check the fluid dipstick, is it red and sweet smelling or does it look browny and smell of caramel? I think it could be a suspension or engine mount problem with mine, because it doesn't happen all the time. I thought it could be related to torque lock-up getting worn out.

as BB said, change ATF if not pink, old and overheated ATF can play havoc with the gear changes.
it leaves varnish type deposits on everything in the box.
theres a product called FORTE auto box treatment that removes this varnish, but ive been informed that a change of ATF followed by 2-3 hundred miles of use and another ATF change is the best method of removing varnisn/deposits.

if you dont fancy all that ,pm me and if you cover all P+P costs, ill lend you an 94 854 auto ECU, to eliminate an ECU prob.

As everyone else has said, check the fluid, I HIGHLY doubt that it's an ECU problem

hi there, mine was doing exactly the same and reverse lights were not working. ai changed the gear position selector swtch or "inhibitor" switch as the dealers called it. fairly easy DIY job i thought, took about 2 hours. hardest part was separating the electric conector block so i modified it slightly. now its running fine.

    regards

wierd, inhibitor switch prevents the car being started whilst in gear and its got a switch on it to enable the reverse lights.

    ill remember that one.

Forgot to mention, that the box was recently re-furbished for the "second" time... first time it was fantastic... smooth as silk.... but this time is is very snatchy first to second... although since I started this thread and after a few "hard" miles it seems to be getting better... the guys at the gearbox place said it was "because you have too much power" yeah right... so why wasn't it bad last time!!!

ANyways, those that are interested Iwill keep you posted here.. with news....

So thanks to all that respond....
