Key cutting and fob programme

Following on from my thread about programming my new key fob (no way on earth its going to be programmed at home!) I have decided to get a second key (car came with one and a dog took a liking to it!) My local dealer tells me as its a 2000 car it needs a chip programme and programming. Is this really the case? They quoted £55 to do this and programme the fob. Christ knows how much the key is!

I bit the bullet and got a spare fob reprogrammed, as i said it was £35 and took ages to get it done, waited a hour for the file to be sent down from Volvo ****s, then it wouldn't take and they had to send another file down, took 3 hours in the end, luckily for me Braydons were very sympathetic hence the price,
keys i have heard can cost £85 upwards plus programming,

excuse my language but wot the f*** is going on £262.58 thats so wrong
what made me even more resentfull of main dealers was the way the prices were quoted to me as if they were totally acceptable.


i did speak to a mobile key/programming guy today he said he could not cut key as it needed a special volvo tool

on the plus side i did find some good year eagle f1 for £90 a tyre which i thought was ok

any guidance on this would be bloody marvelous
