Is there any way of incresing the sound proofing to make the 850 any quiter than it is? Where would you put it? Any pointers would be great! I know that double glazing would be ideal as well.....

egg boxes may look a little silly i suppose!!
Seriously, your best bet is to probably double up on the insulation that is already there.
It also depends on what you want, a friend of mine had a mahoosive sound system in his car and soundproofed it so it couldntbe heard outside!
All you could do is fit insulation anywhere it fits!!
but remember the added weight may affect performace/fuel consumption!

I take it other T5 owners have had issues with soundproofing.
Not really. Dynamat is generally used for stereo installs but it cuts don road noise too.
Not that there is much point with my exhaust! Its like driving a Landrover
My car has just had a TME exhaust and it does drone a bit at 50mph, though the rest of the time it is absolutley fine, though this is an interesting thread as to the mats for the stereo .......
Standard V70 T5
in my opinion, screw dynamat.
I used it on my old corsa. Was pants.
So i ripped it out and used impact soundproofing called e-coustic. Its meant for houses and its pretty expensive (around £250 a roll) But you could stand outside the car and not hear anything. Inside, it was like having headphones on when listening to music (or pissing around on gt3 on the ps2!)
I guess it depends on how much you are actually looking to spend, and what gains you expect.
I am not really worried about hearing music from outside, I am more interested in making the inside as quiet as Lexus......Its to stop every other c***'s music coming in to my car! Not worried about fuel economy and weight. But I want something effective.
Yep, there's plenty of ways to sound deaden it, and dynamat isn't one of them (unless you like throwing money down the drain.. in which case, send it my way instead )
Dynamat (reportedly) uses its' viscoelastic properties to reduce panel vibration caused by speakers.. but the road isn't a speaker.. It also uses "mass loading" to reduce panel vibration/resonant frequency... again, irrelevant to road noise. The really thin ali sheet on top acts as a sound blocker, which *is* relevant... but personally I'd rather spend £2 on a box of tin foil to do the entire car than £27 a sheet to do 18*32".
Ok.. so that "myth" out of the way... where does it leave you?
Well, firstly, that Dynamat's deadening solutions are pretty useless, so we need to look somewhere else. Enter SecondSkin (http://www.secondskinaudio.co.uk/). They have a full range of "barrier" products which will help you reduce road noise.
Look at the primary sources of noise...
1) Engine noise through firewall
2) Engine noise through bonnet/windscreen
3) Road noise through chassis/wheel wells
4) Road noise through perished window/door seals
5) Believe it or not, road noise/air noise through the roof.
So, firstly, the cheapest one to fix, if it's an issue, is probably the window/door seals. Do you notice a rush of air from around your doors/windows when you're driving? If so, replace with new items
Next easiest is the dash - I don't have pics of this yet, but I used a combination of motormat (on top of the air ducts which might get hot and damage the next item - motormat is used in engine bays, so perfectly suited to sitting on top of the ducts to protect things above).. motormat is purely a noise blocker... it doesn't need securing particularly well (I cut to size, then used hot glue on the internal dash plastic). On top of the motormat went a layer of luxury liner, which is a more effective barrier. The dash top goes back on, just! Ok.. but why do the dash? Well, a lot of noise from the engine/firewall comes up through the various holes/channels in the dash.
Now firewall - if you can be bothered to get everything out, this will probably create the single biggest improvement. I'd use several layers of luxury liner on the inside. On the outside (again, if you can be bothered to rip the engine out), a good thick layer of SecondSkin Firewall (1 gallon ought to do it) and then a layer of motor mat. I haven't done the firewall yet as it's a LOT of work.
Chassis base/wheel wells - rip out any OEM deadening and replace with 1 or 2 layers of luxury liner. It's better than the OEM stuff.
Bonnet. Engine/road noise gets to the passengers through the bonnet and then the windscreen... you can't deaden your windscreen (unless you double glaze it), so the bonnet needs doing. I used a gallon of SecondSkin Spectrum Firewall (liquid), followed by half a sheet of motormat, and then put the OEM stuff back over the top.
Here are before, during and after pics of my bonnet deadening:

Doors - take them apart and put a layer of luxury liner/Overkill on the outer skins.
There's a lot of money's worth there, so if you could perhaps come up with a budget, I'll try to advise on which areas would be best to do with which products...
Nookie is currently quieter than normal, and there's some giant holes in the kicks, so once they're finished, it'll be like driving a different car
