    Auto -> Manual conversion

    Hi all!

long time no chat (again!) - really have been neglecting my forum reading too much (both here and on the Volvo 480 CoE forums) - work still a nightmare. I am now assisting in making people redundant I found out today... sucky day all round.

Anyway, I asked about the feasibility of auto to manual conversions on an 850 T5R, and the consensus is that it was do-able, and someone pointed me as a link of an American site where it was discussed.

Here's the new version of the same idea: Is there anyone in the UK who would be be prepared to do an auto-> manual conversion my an 850 T5R?

If there is, let them be known so I can start getting quotes, as I've really had it with autos - knew it was a mistake when I bought it (no offence to Andrew - I'm just too much of a drivers driver for autos)

Don't worry - I'm just trying to find out how much it may cost, then I can decide whether to sell this 850T5R to someone in need here (as it is an extremely nice example), or whether it's cheap enough to convert and I get to keep the nice example, only in _my_ configuration
    Cheers!

Thanks for that lead Here's a question for you all:

What's the complete list of parts I need off a donor car

    I'm thinking:

    gearbox
    clutch (inc pedal)
    trim around manual stick?

But what else? Is the subframe different between auto and manual? I need to remove the auto ECU, but is there any electronics needed from the donor? I.e. do I need to exchange all of the ECUs?

If we can nail a complete list and get agreement amongst the knowledgeable community, I'd be VERY grateful to you all
    Cheers!

TBH is it worth it, you could sell it and buy another green T5R for the probs the same money you get for it . I have done it with BMWs and some fords and it is alot of hassle, ecus become redundant, wiring is tied up, and in general it is a whole load of hassle . The Volvo runns a hydraulic clutch integrated into the brake resevior, so you may need to change that, slave cylinder, copper pipework, centre console..need to be a drk wood one ..hens teeth!!!!the list goes on ...

Off the top of my head you'll need:

    Clutch
    Flywheel(poss)
    Gearbox
    Gearleaver and linkages
    Pedal box
    Slave cylinder and pipework
    brake resovoir(poss)

Thats just for starters, I don't know if you'd have to change the ecu as well, it may be tuned to run with an auto box.

If memory serves me correct you may be able to use the existing centre console with a small mod or two.

hmmm, thats a point I suppose. Depends how much detail you want to go into really, there's always a way of blanking the hole.
