    Volvo 200 series...

    Anyone know much about them?

A mate of mine is keen as mustard about one. He wants to idealy find one older than him (1985 or earlier) and basically 'sleeper' it..... i.e. Lowered, stripped and possibly fit the 700 series turbo engine.

Does anyone know if they made a turbo model in the 200's or was it all n/a?

Also, on the subject of the 740 turbo's, is it true the internals (on a good one) can take 20psi of boost reliabley?

Any help will be greatley appreciated. Personaly, i think it will be quite a good laugh as his main colour choice is brown/beige, failing that, some other horrible 70's/80's colour

I have seen a few pictures of 240 turbo saloons before and I think they used to rally them ! Might be wrong though I am sure someone else will know more.

very early 240's (1985 and earlier coincedently) did have turbocharged engine options, the B19ET the B21ET and the B21FT engines, though after 1985 they were all N/A. i have no idea how many of these turbo versions were sold in the uk however, if any, i have no experience with any of them, but they were before my time

No turbo 240's were made in RHD form, they are all LHD due to steering column clearance issues, a 740/60 turbo engine or 940 one will fit you;ll just keep boiling brake fluid-the reservoir is just above the turbo,

The saloons you are referring to are Grp A 242 2 doors, 2 were made and were for rally use and in RHD form, used special heat shields and i think earlier steering column as they were pre 82 so could clear the turbo,

I've got a breathed on 240 estate, 89, twin 48 d'ellortos, spax suspension etc etc amongst a 262C bertone, a 242 coupe and a couple of others but finally now got my T-5 to start modding..

Any questions on the 200's keep em coming!

I don’t think you would be laughing if one of those old turbo’s blew your T5 away mate lol, see link.

I used to run a 1985 240 RHD 2.1 Turbo red block which was fitted with an intercooler (they don’t have one as standard) and ran 15 psi with additional 5th electronic injector controlled by boost switch. Most of the race cars were used for circuit racing by the way and a 242 won the 1985 European Touring Car Championship for Volvo if memory serves me right.

    Thumbs up

    I have one 244 Turbo(1983) with a B21ET on it,naturally it is LHD.

Fantastic Cars, with some tweaks a rewarding car to drive

I am looking to do the same thing however i'm only in the research stage at the moment. From what i've read i would use an engine from a late 940 turbo, the B230FK. The fuel management on the 740 turbos aren't that good i think that this management (for the 740) is k-jet. On the 940's however you get the lh2.2 or lh2.4 which can adjust to modifications you may make.

Edit, plus if using a 940 you get a better gearbox and a block with piston squirters!

Upgrade the turbo, run a 3inch exhuast from the turbo back, change the head for a 740 turbo, chip the ecu and 15-18psi should see you onto 250bhp through the rears. I'll post up my thinking so far and see if i've got it clear in my head.

    Thanks

Bumping an old thread, but i'm still pondering this idea.
Can anyone point me in the direction of any parts suppliers websites, tuning info etc. ?
Weighing up engine ideas at the moment. I'm still a Volvo tuning n00b so forgive my ignorance.
If i get this right, we had 760/740 2.3 turbo's? And some of the 240's came with a 2.3? Is this basically the same lump bar an added turbo?
Easier to get big power from a red block or T5? Looking for around 500hp come the end.
Whats the story with the 16v heads? impossible to get hold of,worth the hunt?
    Thanks for any help.

EDIT: I've already seen this site, was more after the engine side of things.

hahahaha 16valve heads you'll be lucky! swear i have said before they are rare as! i got stitched up on one though, someone had it advertised for £200 and i went there, was the first there and another guy came with £300 cash, as i only had 200 which the ad was for. I was so annoyed.

Its not only the head you'll need too, new pistons aswell as your 8v ones will have cut outs in the piston heads for 2 and not 4.

cherry, you say you can get them, how much, i am reasonably interested, as i wish to convert my 940 turbo (into a twin turbo) but i also want the claimed extra 50bhp x amount of torques from the 16v head

Was 2 on Ebay.com last week, they're not hard to find if you don't mind paying the shipping.
Pistons wouldn't be a problem as i was thinking of going the whole 9 yards anyway

As said, i was looking at around 500hp....in an estate
