    Question

A bit off topic but can someone please tell me why you need to blank off the old re-circ valve when you fit an aftermarket dump valve.

Could you not just blank off the pipe to the existing re-circ valve or would this cause problems somewhere down the line..?

I gave them a quick call as I couldn't find one on their website, spoke to Peter Miles & he stuck one in the post that same day.

The blanking plate was £19.00 and P&P £2.00

i have my re-circ valve blocked off by the throttle body, i run a Bailey twin piston dump valve with no boost issues. It maybe that you are still drawing air in through the pipe you have blocked off, or possibly one of your pipes may have a split somewhere..

    Hi

With no vacuum pipe on the recirc valve, there will be no pressure to keep it closed.

Therefore, compressed air will be escaping and recircing back into the intake all the time - this will make the turbo work overtime !

Ripper, if you blank off your recirc correctly, you will get a noticable improvment in pickup !

    Thanks Chris

I was actually thinking that by fitting a dump valve my turbo should spin up a lot quicker, yet it has seemed to produced somewhat of a slight lag on take up, yet be it only very slight; you do notice it if your'e used to driving it.

I think i ought to look into making a blanking plate and fitting it in that case then.

    Cheers

dump valves are for chavs lol.its for the burger king drive through gang lol.

from the crap ive read there no evidence a aftermarket dumpvalve gives better performance i.e less lag, if owt it will work opposite.
recirulator sends the pressure back into the inlet system helping to keep the turbo spinning, as a dump valve dumps it outside so the car has to find its own air which could lead to bad mixture and other problems.

if anybody wants to donate me one so i can test the theory i will lol.
my advice is take it off and send it to me to dispose of it safely in a controlled manner

blanking plate £19 just make one yourself for nothing its only a bit of metal with a couple of bolt holes in it

I'm not too keen on Burger King to be honest Gathy....!!!

I'll bare it in mind to send you my DV when i have my frontal labotomy done next month ok....

I was under the impression though that having a dump valve would prolong the life of your turbo though, as it releases the pressure on the inner workings of the turbo.! thus enabling the turbo to spin up faster, as it hasn't got to get rid of pressure before it can blow properly.

I will stand corrected if i'm wrong but thats what i have been told.

You are correct, but the recirc valves dumps the air back into the intake side of the turbo, rather than into the air.

Stick with it, you could T the recirc valve back in temporarily, so that it is kept close under boost.

So are you saying to run both the original re-circ and my Bailey dump valve side by side until i can properly blank off the original re-circ, then just run the Bailey??

    Yup

It'll just make sure you get full boost; and if you already do, it will take a bit of stress off the turbo.
