M5 upgrades

Always liked the bmw M5 (e39) and I know they are 400hp standard but does anybody know much about tuning them? I know it depends on how deep your pockets are when it come to tuning, but what about re-maps etc. Basically like a t5 has a rica 280, 310 etc etc.

They are cracking value for money when you look at what you get, I looked at a 2000 plate with 90k on for 12k. Which I thought wasn't bad money cosidering they were about 60k new.

Sorry dont know much about mods would imagine an exhaust and a remap for optimax any more and i guess your into big bucks.
But just having a look around at the prices etc and i may have found my next car!Never thought i would become a BMW driver but 400bhp loads of toys and great ride etc etc...i may have to. They have come down alot recently they were 20k not long ago.I feel silly for modding and spending alot of £££ on my T5 now

Can get above 500bhp - with correct tuners, but it will cost. Ensure you get the extended warranty when you buy. Purists avoid the comms pack & extras, whereas all the "bits & goodies" will help the car sell quickly.

If you have a V70 T5 and want a saloon, I cannot think of a better VFM car at this time, tweaked S60R is good but £13.5 buys a 2000 M5 or 2003 S60R.

Note: the M5 is good for big miles BUT no where as good as the T5, it is also a LOT MORE expensive to run.

No point in boring you with detail, try this as a recommendation ---->There is a depth of knowledge on the m5board.

Blimey what do you need to do to get over 500hp,alot i would of thought i cannot see a remap getting more that 25hp and an exhaust around 15hp?
Oh i still think my old 850 will walk away from one i a straight line despite what i said in the above post .But i really fancy a change to RWD nicer ride better balanced handleing and lots of toys in the cabin.
I would not even consider the a tweaked S60R i have the turbo from one on my and dont belive there is that much potentional in it for power over 340-350 hp without spending big bucks,and as for the rest of the package (ride steering handleing engine balance etc etc) it is'nt even in the same ball game as the M5.
I to can see the insurance being a problem

Insurance for me was £680 fully comp, and my V70R was £412.00. There is a bit of extra cash involved but its not mega.

You are gonna be expexted to pay a bit more tho, and the running costs will be more but again its expected.

Just did an insurance quote for myself - 36 yrs young, 3 yrs no-claims (only been driving 3 years) and it came up at just over £700 not bad at all, my S70 T5 is just under £400 so not a huge difference really. I was paying a grand for my Prelude 2.2 VTEC just after I passed my test.

The M5 is a fabulous car - my biggest bugbear with the Volvo is it's FWD - it really isn't anywhere near as much fun as RWD.

If I had the funds I'd be looking for an M5 today.

but imagine the cost of a blown engine or gearbox!

They are stunning value for money however running costs wont be slightly higher they will be mega! Brake discs alone will bankrupt most people.

Fuel will be a joke and a single thing to go wrong dont expect change from a grand to get it done and there aint many specialists to maintain them, well cheap ones anyway.

They will do mileage but arent overly reliable, if your going to get one up your budget and get a low mileage one with a proper warranty.
