This happened to mine, none of the exhaust came apart, just the brackets rusted off. The dealer (yup genuine volvo dealer) actually had brackets they'd made up a stock of to weld on. any welder...

I got hacked off faffing about trying to open my one gently and eventually took a bit and brace to the door.... totally wrecked the door but i had another one i was using to replace the internals.

Ahhh it clips to a bracket? I'm thinking maybe i need to get a bracket....
